This imperial or 'Double' Red Ale has intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma balanced by high notable alcohol content, fruity esters and caramel malt character. It is dark reddish-copper in color and full-bodied.

Had a drift of this fine IPA...color is very reddish.....taste is more an English than an American/West Coast style.
High octane 9.5,but it doesn't taste "boozy".
A very great imperial IPA!

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into an El Catador teku glass.

A: Pours a ruddy brown that's quite hazy. Forms a finger's worth of light tan head that fades to a clingy foam, and with a good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Grapefruit and resin hops, toasted malts with fair amount of toffee sweetness. Not a huge nose, and nothing particularly exciting to be found here.

T: Grapefruit, tropical fruits, and resin up front. Toasted malts, toffee and sweet breadiness. Some mild caramel as well. Pine and grapefruit pith bitterness in the hang – a significant bitterness, but is more balanced than usual by the lingering sweet malts.

M: An average body to maybe even a little heavy-boded for style, but a good level of carbonation sensation prevents this from feeling heavy or syrupy at all. A bit of alcohol heat but within acceptable standards.

O: A bit more malt-leaning than I'd hope for. Also, not a particularly interesting or complex hop profile. But it all leads to the feeling of an acceptable red ale, but there's certainly a “been-there-done-that (and probably multiple times)” feeling to the whole affair. Not bad, but not worth the price of admission.

Deep red-amber and clear, with a tall, whitewashed tan foam head; lotsa lace trails behind... Caramel-malty, sweet with deep fruit impressions... Resinous-like stickiness, medium bodyweight... shellac of bitterness coats the tongue on the finish... I don't go for many red and amber ales, and while this is good, it doesn't really stand out as anything special... For the style, comes off a bit too heavy and thick...
