undressed wit.

A: Tangerine orange pour, with a dirty eggshell white head that was skimpy and short holding, typical of style. Lots of evenly distributed effervesce. Small whispy lace.

S: Old bar lemons, with some tart orange. Some musky wheat, along with some yeast funk. The spicing is subdued, undistinguishable with a low awareness. Maybe some dried cloves, but is the musky lemon and orange that really overshadows all.

T: Citrusy orange is bright and tart on the opening sip, packing a favorable funk and good first impression despite its average nose. Funky peaches, some banana and tart pineapple. Damp floral and musky grapefruit closes out.

M: Good fullness, slick texture with a fair and crisp carbonation.

O: Decent drinkability overall, doesn't really jump out at your from the start appearance and smell wise, but the flavor opens with a solid wallop and smooth yeast funk and tropical fruit. Dry champagne like finish. The most important aspect, the flavor redeems this.

Solid, like brewer, tho their water softer than up here at local hero Carton/Atlantic Highlands.
a) hazy golden body sports a frothy head of bright white without much lace or last.
s) Big yeast and chalky upfront, with back notes of green apple, clove, spice cabinet.
t) Yeast fronts the taste with sharp green apple back half, nuanced by spice, coriander, berry.
Backdrop of sweet malt but balanced.
f) Nice sharp acidity. Fine carb. Finishes dry with pleasant fruit pectins and the appropriate aspirin chalk.
o) A bright approachable wit as good as any on east coast? Try 6.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky yellow color with small white head. The aroma is acidic fruit. The taste is similar to the nose with some wheat.

A: hazy (chill haze) pale yellow color with some darker straw color as well. Big 3 finger marshmallow head

S: smell is faint. Wheat, lemongrass, subtle bubblegum. Pears, and clove close out the flavor

T: lemongrass, pale wheat, sweet citrus, big crackery flavor. Lemon zest finishes this off. I'm not that impressed

M: light and effervescent. Lots of carbonation

O: a little light on the flavor here. The citrus zest is the biggest presence in here. Needs more body and a bit more complexity out of the malt

Poured from a can. It pours a fairly clear straw yellow at first, only for the last 3rd of the can to be totally hazy, with small head that doesn't last more than a minute. Aroma is yeasty and spicy with banana, clove and bubblegum. Taste is fairly balanced between sweetness and tartness with some minor bitterness at the end. Some decent carbontion bite. A very nice Wit for sure.

I reviewed four (4) of Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing's beers a little over a week ago as part of The CANQuest (tm), but passed over this one. Nothing here at Chez Woody is done by accident, so there must have been an underlying purpose, correct? Right you are! Every Wednesday is Watermelon/Wit/Watermelon Wit Wednesday and so it was set aside to be this week's entry.

From the CAN: "A Curious Brewery and Refuge"; "Profile[:] Wheat & yeast with tantalizing spice & citrus finish"; "Notice[:] This gal is half-dressed, but full-flavor! [-] Enjoy responsibly"; "Cheap Thrills on the Boardwalk!"; "Tucked away in the dark [CAN]fines of the boardwalk during the turn of the century were mutoscopes. Inside one of these gems was a silent slideshow featuring a voyeuristic butler looking through a keyhole. The film, 'What the Butler Saw,' let you privately take a peep while standing in plain view."; "Enjoy in Public or Private".

The Crack! unleashed a bit of a squirt across my fingertips as well as some foaming through the vent. You might think that this would preclude an inverted Glug, but au CANtraire, mon frere! A Wit should be unfiltered and have any lees & spices in suspension, so I CANducted an inverted Glug, resulting in just under two fingers of foamy, bone-white head with extremely limited retention. Color was a cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose had a pepperiness along with a light mustiness and it tickled my sinuses to the point that I almost sneezed! Mouthfeel was medium. Oh, my goodness, but the pepperiness of the coriander was wildly prevalent on the tongue! Phew. I really needed something like this today. I am not being ironic, but instead, I had a runny nose all day, either from seasonal allergies or a nascent cold, but I took some meds and laid down for a couple of hours. Upon rising, my nose had stopped running, but I wondered if it might affect my sense of smell & taste. Nope. I could also taste a light, lemony biscuitiness as well as the mustiness imparted by the yeast. Finish was dry, no surprise, and a result of the CANbined yeast & spices. I generally liked it, but I think that it would be much better suited for a hot, humid summer's day a the shore.
