Appearance - Medium amber-yellow. Clear. Not unlike apple juice. Little head to speak of and what's there quickly dissipates.
Smell - Sweet apple and a faint muskiness. Not unpleasant.
Taste - Light sweet apples and sweet, apparently pale, malt. Some alcohol. Merging of flavors is a little funky - not sure this quite works together.
Mouthfeel - Light - medium.
Overall - If someone told they planned to make this beer, I'd probably be in favor of it. The flavor combination in this beer, however, doesn't quite work for me.

I had to do this because I love capital and I love doppelbocks.
Appearance - The beer was a golden color with a bubbly white head. No lacing was left on the sides of the glass.
Smell - Since I have small children, I can saw with some measure of authority that this smells like their apple juice. Further, it smells like mass produced apple juice.
Taste - Capital lists this beer as a doppelbock, so I have to judge it relative to the style. Naturally, it does not look like one. On the initial taste, I thought of carbonate apple juice. It is dry and perhaps a little tart, like a sparking juice. I really have trouble detecting any beer qualities in this beer. If they were leaning more toward a fruit beer, this certainly lacks the sweetness of a New Glarus Apple Ale. In the aftertaste, the beer leans toward sour apple with the dry effect continuing.
Mouthfeel - I will say the beer goes down easy. The carbonation is too active for the style. The advantage of this being the taste is quickly scrubbed away.
Overall - I love Capital and I love their doppelbocks. That said, please don't ever make this again.

Appleanche pours a golden color with no head. There is a strong aroma of tart fresh red apples. The taste has a bold full red apple flavor, more tart then sweet. Good full flavors, and good body, and not overly sweet. Overall a very nice enjoyable apple beer.

"Capital Square Series
This unique doppelbock packs a punch of apple flavor. The tart crispness of the apples is balanced with just enough malt sweetness to make this big beer dangerously smooth."

A: Dark gold or light copper in color. Forms a smaller sized fizzy white head that reduces fairly quickly, leaving just a thin white ring around the edge. No lacing.
S: Aroma is mostly apples. Apple skin to be specific. There are some notes of alcohol in the mix and a bit of lighter malts as well.
T: Tastes is interesting. The apple is there. Bitter and mildly astringent apple skin and apple cider. But there is an underlying maltiness to the beer as well. Unfortunately, the beer is also rather hot on the finish, reminiscent of a cheap apple or pear brandy. Chemical aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied. Mildly sweet on the front end. Astringent and pithy on the back end. Little in the way of hops.
O: Not so sure about this beer. Tastes more like an apple-flavored malt liquor than a apple-flavored doppelbock. Sure, the apple is there, but unfortunately, so are the harsh flavors.
