Poured from the bottle to a pint glass, the appearance was a murky brown color with a slight off-white head crowning the beer. A smooth malty aroma radiated from the beer with a hint of discrete smokiness. The eternal flame name seems appropriate. The initial taste was a delicious combination of sweet fruit with a pleasant level of booziness. Notes of toffee, biscuit, and brown sugar are also detectable. Even with a 9.1 ABV, the alcohol is well masked. This beer goes down easy. In the aftertaste, the fruit and alcohol seems to grow sweeter as it warms the throat. The thickness of the beer allows it to linger nicely at the back of the throat. Doppelbock are among my favorites styles. Capital has been solid in producing their line of Doppelbocks.

Has some real fruit elements to the nose, plum to cherry, some spice, malt is much further back. Pours brilliant red tinted amber under a dense, pure white finely bubbled, persistent 2” white foam cap. The palate is very malty with toffee to caramel, raisin, leather, plum, and a suspicion of port. It is chewy, smooth and creamy.

12oz single.

appearance: served in my great lakes chalice, hazy copper-amber body, 1/3" beige cream head with light lace

smell: huge malty nose - caramel, bread, dough, toffee, butterscotch

taste: Capital is a strange brewery that has degraded somewhat in consistency in the past few years. If there's one thing that they consistently knock out of the park, its the doppelbock. Eternal Flame is a cool story, but in a lot of ways its just another variation of autumnal fire. That said, this is a very good beer - a silky smooth malt bomb - caramel, toffee, dough, toasted bread, brown sugar, maple.

mouthfeel: smooth and creamy, on the light end of medium

overall: solid stuff

Agreed with other assessment - this is not the "dobblebock" I expected. Granted, when I asked for a taste if it (before buying a full snifter of it), I was td by the bartender that it is a habanero stout. That being said, this is a great beer.

Poured a nice clean and clear deep amber/red with a thin ring of off white head.

The smell is very bready and sweet with a big hit of brown sugar and molasses.

The flavors are sweet and malty with a bit of sourdough, toffee, and brown sugar all making appearances. Has a bit of a light minty bit of earthy hops in the finish, almost enough to bring back a little balance, but not quite.

The mouthfeel is thick and oily.

A decent doppelbock, maybe a bit syrupy and sweet, and not and improvement on the great autumnal fire, hopefully the future iterations are more interesting.

pours clear burnt orange with a small 1/2 finger head that faded to a film and left no lacing

smells of boozy apples caramel toffee nutty malt

taste is just like the nose but the i think the booze is a little too much and over shines the malts that are not as rich as the other doppels capital makes - malts are less caramel and more bready

mouthfeel medium light body - over carb boozey bite without a dry finish is not smooth and not good

overall - big let down after from capital maybe 6months will help - good thing Autumnal Fire is still on the shelf and Blonde Doppelbock will be out soon enough

Appearance - Medium copper-amber. Opaque. Thin just off-white head.

Smell - Very rich malt. Caramel and dark fruit, prunes or raisins. A hint of alcohol.

Taste - Sweet rich malt. Fruity - prune or raisin character quite prominent - and some brown sugar or molasses. Clearly quite a bit of alcohol.

Mouthfeel - Medium. Smooth.

Overall - Fantastic, a perfect beer for slow sipping on a late autumn evening.
