These guys love to make Doppelbocks. I think this is three kinds I have had.

I poured this and found it to have a nice clear auburn body with a very light tan head.

Immediately, I was overwhelmed with a really strong candy and syrup smell. Things calmed down a little and now it is a caramel and roasted malt nose. The head has left a little lace and a good ring around the side.

This is about 45F and about right. Taste is very strong with roasted malts and caramel and brandy. I also notice some fruits like apricot. This is a pretty sweet beer with an almost sticky mouth feel. As with the smell, things seemed to calm down a little after a few minutes in the glass. It ends up being a very balanced flavor and the mouth feel also improves. Somehow, the mouth feel turns out a little dry after all that up front sweetness in the beginning. I don't notice any alcohol up front. This is a pretty good representative of the style but one at a time is enough for me. A couple German examples make it difficult for me to put this in the same league, but it is still a good offering.

Served in Duvel tulip glass.

Leave it to modern humans to take a cool metaphor and turn it into a comparatively meek concrete expression of remembrance. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sienna-topaz topped by a finger of off-cream foam. The nose comprises lightly-toasted rye bread, maple syrup, candied orange peel, mild booze, a hint of fennel, and what seems like a pinch of clove. The taste brings in more of the same, with a bit more fennel, a more darkly-toasted bread component, some mild notes of red apple skin, and an increased feel of booze, which nearly comes off as too much for its own good. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly drying finish. Overall, a mostly solid d-bock, though a bit too boozy for my tastes.

Bottle shared by CaptainCougar. Thanks Tom.

The beer is murky amber with a thin, off white head. The aroma offers fruits, sweet malt, alcohol. Plums and booze in the flavor. Medium bodied and a bit harsh in the finish. Needs some refinement and could be gentler on the palate.

Capital Eternal Flame. Capital Brewery Company, Middleton, WI.

Clear, crimson coloring, very small head.

Aroma: sweet and malty, a little woody, some oak? Very mellow and balanced, while still sweet, just a little fruity.

Taste: Plump and juicy malt flavor. Sweet and succulent. Raisins and figs and apple. Just plain ol' yummy-yum. Good balance, but leaning heavy on the sweet malty side. And the booze comes rolling in. 9% won't stay quiet.

Let's take a break and read the label, shall we?
"Capital Square Series. Welcome to generation two of the evolving flame concept. In addition to Autumnal/Imperial Fire blend, we've added a BIG, smoldering delight, christened Jacked Maibock. Join us for a walk on the intensely malty side."

I like the name, I love the art on the bottle. That's a crazy looking bird! And the beer is quite nice, as well. Big, fat and malty, sweet and full, molasses and raisins, dark rum, and other delights. Tasty stuff. A lovely nightcap.
