My pour initially resulted in a finger's worth of bone-white head, but it quickly reduced to mere wisps. The color was a lightly hazy deep gold. The nose had a definite honey/lager-like smell. The mouthfeel was thin-to-medium with slightly malty lager-like flavor on the tongue. The finish was equally lager-sweet. It was a solid representation of the style, but I just tend to prefer more hops, even in my lagers.

Revisting an old friend 'cause it was on sale:

A: Pours clear and bright gold with a thick white head that settles nicely.

S: DMS, grainy malt, slight spicy hop character -- all ver clean with nothing overpowering or offensive, if a bit light in the malt character.

T: Nice maltiness that isn't quite melanoidin-ful as some of the Munich imports, but very flavorful. Noble hops in the finish with a slight vegetal character trying to come through.

M: Very soft and smooth, satisfying.

D: Outstanding. This may actually be beating out the imports at this stage.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 20oz imperial pint.

A: Pours a clear and bright golden yellow color. Covering this is a bubbly and frothy head that leaves a little bit of lace.

S: Nice aroma of biscuits, toasted malt, and fresh noble hops which adds a hint of citrus.

T: Toasted malt and citrus-y hops. Biscuits, toasted bread crust, and lemon/orange.

M: Smooth at first, then quickly turns spicy and effervescent with a smallish sweet fruit finish.

D: Good drinkability for a good beer. Could see this being awesome at a summer picnic.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-yellow body with a scant white head.

Smell: Light aroma with a touch a pale malts and fruit.

Taste: Pale malts with some candy-like sweetness and a brief, fleeting fruitiness. Mild, spicy bitterness. Clean, delicate finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium, prickly carbonation.

Drinkability: A decent albeit a basic lager.

Very clear golden body with two finger head that laces down the whole time.

Smells biscuity and clean, not much to the aroma. Taste has a good hop kick that balances out the malts to keep this from becoming an early o'fest. Clean, refreshing water is noticable, great beer for a hot day. Feels good, a lit more carbonated than most, but it lead the way for the refreshing characteristics.

A good beer from a good brewery. I am usually not let down but these guys and I am still not.

This beer pours a clear golden color. The head is two fingers in height and fluffy. It recedes slowly into a nice cap of foam. The aroma is of biscuity malt, with a sharp noble hop bite. The taste starts out with th malt then melds into a nice long hoppy finissh. Th mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with lively carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice beer. I can certainly see myself drinking this again.

A - Medium orange color. Bright white head fades to a patchy eighth inch. Small blobs of lacing.

S - Sweet corny smell with light bitter hops.

T - Starts out with a surprisingly sharp hoppy bitterness that lingers for quite a while. Some light grainy corny flavors come in and the finish is sweet with bitter corn flavors.

D - Another solid lager from Capital. Excellent drinkability.

A: 12 Oz Bottle into a pilsner glass creates a beautiful golden straw color with tight white bubbles forming about a one inch head. The head fades quickly to a lacing film. Tiny bubble form continuous effervescence from bottom to top. Really nice to look at, I can’t wait to take a sip!

S: Faint but noticeable maltiness with sweet biscuit notes.

T: Sweet up front sweet cream and biscuit flavors balancing bitter hops finish but not overpowering.

M: Crisp and clean with light carbonation but also has some weight to the point of being chewy. Finishes dry but not too bitter.

D: Over-all this was a very good beer that I found easy to drink as I made my way to a second sample but it is a bit too heavy to session.

Into a pint glass, pours a light golden color, a little head receding to a thin film, bits of lacing here and there. The aroma is faint and soft, but plenty nice, buttery malt, floral hops, something crisp like citrus in there. The taste is better, the same buttery biscuit malt, a crisp taste with a floral hop profile, drying toward the finish, pretty decent but also a bit lacking in luster. The mouth is a bit light, but carbonation is good and the dry ending is to my liking, but still the weight is disappointing. Overall though, this one went down quick, an easily drinkable and fairly authentic helles. Nice.

Acquired via trade from rpzel, so a big "Thank You" goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains mostly the sweetness of light German malts and lager yeast, along with some hops.

T: The taste is bready and sweet with the most basic of beer flavors; light malts and hops, neither of which is overdone. There really is not much else to say about it except that it leaves a slightly sweet after-taste.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not filling at all, decent kick, very good representation of style. If you are looking for a particular attribute that is going to impress you, then this is not the beer for you unless that attribute is simplicity. This beer is just an ordinary concept done very, very well.

pours a golden straw color, semi-hazy, with a few fingers of white head that dissipates rather quickly.

smell is malty and sweet. very clean smelling, with only the basics: pale and munich malts, and a touch of hops in the background. the aroma is pleasant and balanced.

taste is malty and sweet up front, with mild hop presence on the way down. nothing but crisp and clean, just what a good lager should be.

mouthfeel is light-bodied, with a smooth and silky mouthfeel. almost no carbonation here.

drinkability is great. this is a very light and simple brew, that is executed extremely well. well balanced with good concentration while not overdoing it. great for a hot summer day. cheers!

Slightly more orange than amber with a gradually slowing flurry of uprushing bubbles. The aged ivory cap has an appealing texture and is leaving the glass coated with a thin layer of barely broken lace. The appearance says 'quality beer'.

The nose is a near equal mixture of untoasted grain and mildly spicy noble hops. I have no idea how old this bottle is, but by the smell of things, the hops still have a lot left in them. I hope the same is true on the palate. There's only one way to find out...

After reading the BA style description for Munich Helles Lager, it occurs to me that Bavarian Lager hits the style nail on the head. The beer is at least as malty as it is hoppy and has quite a bit of German hop spiciness. I don't like beer of this style as much as I like a well-brewed pilsener, but I can't fault Capital for that.

I tastes like there's a touch of earthiness and nuttiness to the malt bill. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Munich or Vienna is used in addition to pale. It certainly does make the beer seem authentically German. It also makes it taste like a pale version of an Oktoberfest.

The mouthfeel has that lightly creamy lagery smoothness that only the good breweries seem to be able to pull off. It begins to fade on the finish, but doesn't come anywhere near thin. A fine tongue tingle keeps things lively rather than dull.

Bavarian Lager is a well-constructed beer that most German lager lovers should enjoy. In fact, I've decided to bump the flavor score one notch above what my taste buds tell me is appropriate because I recognize quality and style accuracy when I taste it. Thanks to beer like this, I'm gaining a newfound respect for Capital.

Served in a flute. Pours a clear, light amber. Small bright white head, settles to a white ring around the glass. Leaves a nice lacing around the glass. The nose is a balance of yeast, hops and malts. Tastes good and simple. Light to medium mouthfeel.Left my mouth clean. Wouldn't be a bad lawn mower lager.

Deep blonde body with a good finger of head but uneven lacing.

Pleasant yeast/banana aromas with mild grain scents.

Wonderful balance between the malt and hops with just the slightest dry bitterness following a mellow sweetness. Faint apple and wheat tastes linger. While this really isn't one of my favorite styles I must say that this is a wonderful example of the genre.

Mouthfeel is slightly too crisp but that's just nit-picking; although I'm normally not one for lagers I could easily see myself drinking this all night. Really good.

Pours a clear, bright gold, with a large white head.

Smells of caramel and bread.

Flavor reminds me of honey, instead of caramel. There is a zesty lemon rind zip to it, although I wouldn't say the flavor has much lemon. The aftertaste ends with a bit of a sour fruit and bready flavor, with a hint of husky bitterness.

Has a decent body, well-carbonated, somewhat medium heaviness revolving around the flavors.

Very refreshing, extremely drinkable in mass quantities.

Clear full gold. Very fine sticky bright white head settles to a thin complete cap leaving nice lacing.

Nose is slightly dusty doughy malt. There's a nice herbal hop aroma which subtly supports the malt and adds some complexity. Relatively restrained, but nice.

Medium in the mouth. Smooth, soft, slightly sweet raw doughy malt predominates. Just a hint of hop on the finish. Pleasant, but not complex, or particularly interesting.

Extremely smooth satiny mouthfeel. Very drinkable, and a lovely choice for a summer evening in the biergarten, but really needs more going on to keep me coming back. I prefer other Capital offerings, which are as drinkable, but imminently more interesting.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a pint glass, out in the yard over a grill with fresh Johnsonville original recipe brats starting to sizzle and spit. The liquid is a Yellow color and slightly cloudy. The head is a smallish 1 finger white cap of small bubbles that are creamy looking and smooth.

The smell is faint, a little malt going on. Light hop note, quite respectable for a helles.

The taste is ....Oh Snap! Zing Pow, just what the doctor ordered. This taste is great. I don't quite know what about it is so good. The last time a took a swallow and kept drinking like this, I was at Augustiner am Dom Frauenplatz in Munchen, just finished a four hour walking tour and was ready for 'Mass' quantities of fresh brew.
This brew captures that taste perfectly, Here and fresh! a light malt lovers delight! Mass Helles... Mass helles This beer will have me repeating that in my sleep again, I can feel it.

The mounthfeel is just amazing, This brew begs to be swallowed. perfect medium body backed up with a delightful carbonation with the prefect bite for swilling back.

Drink-a-bility is simply the best. I could drink 3 in 5 minutes and still want more and more. Keep them coming shbobdb. you have me hooked. Thanks for the excellent pick!

Pours golden yellow with a very slight haziness. White, fomay head.

Light aroma is of malt and yeast, and a little lemon.

Light, smooth flavor, but well rounded. Sweet and bready malts, tart lemon, grassy hops--it's all there.

Very smooth, nice mouthfeel.

Very drinkable, though I might lose interest before long due to the light flavor. Good session beer.

Golden, apricot-y, clear. Small head, ring-like, off-white, with tiny bubbles. Tangy fresh bread and yeast on the nose. Rummy sweets and some dough. Herbal, vegetal hops. Tangy malt flavor on the palate. Sweetish with light cooked vegetable notes. Ample bitterness (lightly toasted) throughout but more so in the finish. Herbal and nice. The beer pours a pleasant enough straw colour and smells, well, the way a good Helles ought: subtle smells of malt and noble hops gently massage your nose. The taste follows the nose and is remarkably pleasant. I could drink this beer all day. Mmmm.

The hops are more muted in this offering than their Special Pilsner and which you buy comes down to a tough decision. When I am in the mood for something more mild than their Pilsner, this is what I reach for.

12 ounce bottle. This beer has a clear yellow appearance with a small head. Malty aroma with a bit of corn and lemon. The flavor is nice up front, crisp and malty. Lightly hazed gold/copper color, with a sizable, yet fast fading head. Malty with light banana and a little citrus. Taste is malt and full, also with hints of citrus, and a smoothed-over banana feel to it. Hops are very subdued, not a whole lot of bitterness going around. This is a good beer, above average, but nothing great.
