This pils pours into a golden-orange color with a foamy head that sticks around for a little bit leaving a lace on the glass. The aroma is like that of the Bavarian Lager with a lighter malt presence and a more floral hop waft. The flavor is moderately bitter with a lingering sweet toasted malt presence. Not bad for a style I try to avoid.

Translucent with a straw-yellow hue. Good-sized white head (about a finger’s worth), good retention with a reasonable amount of lace. Understated nose, really faintly spiciness, noticeable earthy hops, some malt too. The palate is low-key, lightly malty with a noticeable hops bite, mildly grassy, creamy. The finish is somewhat crisp with little lingering sweetness that melts with the subtle carbonation… well done. Medium-light body. Very drinkable, this is session beer material for a hot summer’s day. This is a top-notch Pilsner and something I’d recommend for the far to few Pilsner fans on BA.

I must say this is one of the worst names for a beer I have ever seen. “Special Pilsner”… how boring and nondescript.

It's nice to find an American-made pils that tries to emulate the best of the Euros. The appearance is maybe the best I've seen, with thick lacing and head. The aroma is pretty spot-on too, a touch sour with bread grains and spicy hops. The taste, unfortunately is just a little off. It's almost like the grains are too sweet. There's just a little something missing that's keeping this from being a great pils. Still, it's worth checking out. Nothing bland here.

12 oz. bottle into a pils glass

Pours a hazy golden color with a one inch white head. It sinks to a skim and leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is pretty weak overall, there's light grainy notes with a decent hoppy character that is spicy and grassy.

Taste has a grainy malt flavor with slight biscuit notes followed by hops that join in the middle. Spicy, grassy, and herbal, typical noble hop character.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, the usual clean lager character with a crisp bite.

This was a pretty good Pilsner. There's definitely better examples out there but pretty good for an American version.

Twist top, no dating or abv info.

Crisp and clean looking sunshine yellow pour, darn nice thick and gooey eggshell white head - sticking to the sides of my Bitburger pilsner glass.

Grassy, herbal aroma. Sharp tang of malt, and again - crisp and clean (sorry Budweiser). Nicely balanced with a finish on the hoppy side - ever so slightly. Better than average pilsner, good for the locals - not one that I'd go after from here.

The beer pours a pale yellow color with a slight haziness initially, but clears after it warms up. The white colored head develops to about a 1 inch layer, and quickly receded to a small bubbly mat.

My initial impression on the aroma is noble hops, followed by a mild sweetness and a touch of butter.

The flavor consists of a biscuit malt profile, backed up quite well by the spicy hop character. Clean and simple. Although there are some slight buttery off flavors.

A nice light bodied, quite drinkable pilsner. The classic flavors are there, some minor flaws with the chill haze and hint of diacetyl keeps this beer from scoring too high, however.

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass.

Pours a honey golden with a quickly dissolving inch of white fizzy head. The aroma is pilsner malts with a nice balance of spicy, flowery hops. The flavor is sweet malt upfront with a slight hop flavor and no bitterness. Its light-medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. I really enjoy the balance in this beer, it makes for easy and pleasurable drinking.

Pours a pale yellow color with a nice head that is well retained and leaves some lace. The aroma is plenty of fresh hay with some nice sweet floral maltiness and a bit of good if mild noble hop note. The flavor is plenty of herbal hoppiness, very clean with a overall dry character. Very crisp and easy to drink, but plenty bitter. The maltiness comes through with a mild toastiness and a bright but dry bready character. The palate is nice, this drinks very easily and it should but there is enough sharpness in there to give it a very pleasant mouthfeel. I'm glad I got this relatively fresh. I very glad Capital beer has come back to Iowa. I missed it.

Poured a clear dark golden color with a white head. Aroma consisted primarily of malt and Saaz hops. Mouthfeel seemed rather smooth for a Pilsner with a very light crispness. Nice hop and malt balance in the flavor. Finish leans toward the sweeter end at the top of the throat with a light bitterness to it. Very drinkable and a good micro conversion beer to ween someone off the macros.

Appearance: Pours a perfectly clear, medium gold with lots of bubbles rising to the surface. It's off-white head starts out small and stays that way, leaving a bit of lace down the side of the glass.

Smell: The aroma is malty and bready, with a touch of herbal hops. A bit on the faint side, but very clean.

Taste: Sharp and clean, with a firm hop bitterness and herbal, citric flavor. The malts are more subdued in this brew, but still come across as bready and faintly sweet. Finishes quickly with a moderate bitterness, along with a sweet bready maltiness.

Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated, with a crisp dryness. This brew could use a bit more body, but it's still pretty good.

Drinkability: Pretty good for what it is. This is a bit more tame than most German pilsners, as it posesses less bitterness and hop flavor. If they would beef it up a notch or two, this would be a great beer.

I found this to be not your typical pils. The appearance at first glance had me look at the bottle name twice. It pours a slightly haze amber/orange. No gold to be found here. An average head that fades to a thin film. Lace was good, some ringing. The aroma is grainy & grass-like. The taste was somewhat sweet, malty, faint hop finish. The brew is smooth to drink while the mouth is left slightly dry.

Bright, golden body with a thick, foamy head (about two fingers). Looks like it belongs in a magazine ad. Pretty.

Grassy, lemony scents with faint yeast aromas.

Assertive hops with a tangy aftertaste. Somewhat more bitter than I look for in a pilsner and, in fact, the aftertaste begins to border on astringent.

Mouthfeel is good; cabonation is right with a bit of chewiness. I DO like this beer but when I want a pilsner (which is not very often) I look for something different. A mixed bag.

12. oz bottle, no freshness date. Hazed dark gold body, head is very small f rom the get-go. Smell has a lot of graininess to it, plus some clean grassiness. Taste is dominated by a flavor that starts of very sharp and grassy, and finishes with some hops that are quite bitter. Good transition, a nice drinkable beer that is not overpowering in grasiness, that doesn't have a trace of skunk. Nice CO2, also.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass. 4.7% ABV, 0700 on the neck.

A - Very lightly hazy, this brew pours a pale straw yellow color with a firm stark white head. Good retention eventually leads to thick lace coating the glass.

S - Touches of lemongrass spice up the German pils aroma that's rich with pilsner malts, a soft mineral hint and moderate noble hops finishes it up. A touch of corn-chip comes through faintly in the back.

T - Hard mineral water is the base for this brew, letting pilsner malts take over briefly before switching to a little citrus note with noble hops.

M - Crisp and light-bodied, it's a hard pilsner with a moderately high carbonation finish and crisp refreshment. Just above average though.

D - Good drinkability from another nice Capital lager. Has good qualities but needs a little work. The lemongrass hint in the nose is nice.

A: Clear golden-yellow, white head, little retention, good lace.

S: Floral, soapy, grassy hops with a hint of breadyness.

T: Plenty of hop flavour: floral, grassy, metallic; light bread, good bitterness. It's decent, but I'm comparing it to a German Pils.

M: Moderate body & carbonation, smooth, crisp, dry finish.

D: Decent drinker.

Reviewed from notes.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Appearance is straw yellow. Very transparent with a white head with good lasting power. Nose is a bit grainy with some floral characteristics and a bit of an herbal, earthy quality. Taste is light noble hops with grain. Feel is light and crisp and this drinks quite well overall.

Pours a clear medium gold color with a very fizzy white head that immediately settles to a small size.
Smell is grain, dark fruit, bread, a pinch of spicy hops.
Taste is light caramel and bready malts with a decent dose of spicy hop bitterness. Medium mouthfeel...pretty standard. Should be served cold. As it warms, tastes more grainy and sweet.
Not a bad beer.

Light straw in color with a finger of white head that turns into some light lacing.

Herbal/floral hops in the nose leading to a nice bitter and crisp pilsener. Hops have plenty of bite on the palate exhibiting herbal, minty, and spicy flavors. Malt is crisp and clean. Finishes nice and dry.

A solid pilsener.

A- Slightly hazy straw gold, half finger head.

S- Spicy noble hops atop a thin malt backbone.

T- Very nice balance of hop flavor without overdoing the bitterness. Light grainy malt brings up the front then fades off.

M- Fairly textbook for the style.

D- I doubt I'll seek it out, but I won't deny it.

Just a good pilsner, which for a pils, is compliment enough.

Had this in Wisconsin Dells, WI

Poured a slightly opaque yellow with a short, white head.

Smells of bread yeast and light floral.

Taste is of grain, grapefruit and medium-strong bitter that clears on the pallet pretty quickly.

It has a light mouthfeel and high carbonation.

This a very refreshing, session beer.

A- Medium golden-yellow with a one-fingered head that recedes after a minute or two. Minimal lacing left.

S- Grassy with some lemon zest. Some spiciness perhaps.

T- Some noble hops here but nothing overpowers. Grass/bread. Just an easy drinker all the way around.

M- Clean, crisp...very pleasant mouthfeel.

D/O- What a refreshing offering from Capital. Consider me pleasantly surprised after too many "misses" from them recently.

Very slighly brown straw color and slightly hazy, with a nice head a good lacing. Smells of grassy hops and sweet malts. Taste is also sweet with a grassy hop flavor, plus a clean, yeasty, and sweet aftertaste, with a bit of bitter hops and grain flavors. Mouthfeel is slighly slick and fairly carbonated. A fine pilsner in my opinion.

Appearance: A lighter shade of gold straw color than the 1900 lager, but this one has great head retention from the white sized evenly laced layer of foam. Aroma: Nice zesty Saaz soothe the beer lovers soul in all of us, very well balanced and clean. Taste: Excellent spot of bitterness with some bready biscuit malts, very nice drinkability. Mouthfeel: A bit spritzy with full flavor nice overall feel to this light bodied lager. Drinkability: Excellent well hopped pils what more can I say.

Poured from a 12 once bottle into a small pils glass.

Pours a light straw with perfect clarity. Head is minimal and fizzy and recedes to a film. Leaves a thin ring.

Aroma is crystal malt and floral hops. Aroma of noble hops and bright husky grain. Aroma is clean and relatively pronounced.

Flavor is light malt followed by floral hops. Middle hops become fruity and the malt flattens out to a thicker flavor, slightly sweet like honey. Hops are in good balance with the malt and bitter the beer ever so slightly. Finishes dry and slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel is thin and with the aggressive carbonation cuts the grain completely. A slight burn on the tongue as the palate is left dry.

Nice pils, I would say a very competent example.
