This hefe is a pretty decent domestic stab at the bavarian style of wheat beers.

The appearance is a hazy gold with very little head formation or retention, which is the biggest downfall of this beer.

There are some nice spicy tones in the aroma: cloves and phenolic tanginess.

The taste has a really nice subdued tartness with the appropriate sweetness and phenolic notes nicely balanced. Very tasty and thirst quenching.

Capital has brewed a very nice summer beer with its Kloster Weizen.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a clean Weizen glass.

It poured a hazy golden color with a high level of activity. The head was initially a little more than 1/2 inch tall but shrank down to about a 1/4 of an inch and held. I could hear the popping of the carbination!

A rich smell of clove and green banana. Sweet and fruity to the smell.

The taste is a great contrast to the smell. A little tart at first, then sweet in the very end of the finish. It tastes like a freshly picked pear. It is medium bodied.

This is just a delicious beer. I could drink it all day.

This is one of my regular wheat beers, solidly made and wonderfully complex enough for summer thirsts. As wheats go this one looks pretty basic, light golden in color with a white head but pretty average for looks, too clear for a hefe. Aroma of bananas, spicy yeast, malt and cloves. It has a solid medium/light body with a nice complex malt/yeast/spice flavor , sweet cream, vanilla, bananas and a little residual nutty malt sweetness in the finish. If you like your hefe's with a bananas and cream flavor, this is a great one.

Appearance is a nice straw colored yellow. Unfortunately it's a bit weak in the head retention department.

Aroma has some banana and mild wheat with no noticeable hops. Nothing unexpected or bad, it has an interesting (good) aroma that I can't pin-down. That being said, it seems like it's missing just a little something to balance the aromas better. Still it's quite pleasant and not worth a major ding.

Slightly tart flavor with almost no bitternes or hops. Some slight fruitiness, but nothing overwhelming.

Mouthfeel is a little thin, yet a slight cloying finish appears briefly only to disappear into a clean aftertaste enticing another sip.

It's easy to have a lot of these as they go down oh so easily. I'm fortunate to have Capital in town, constantly producing a variety of high quality beers.

The yellow label has a picture of the WI capital in Madison.

Appearance: No head, dark golden color, not as cloudy as it should be.

Smell: Citrus odor, also somewhat of an alcohol odor.

Taste: I think this is a midway point between an American wheat and a true hefe. The banana flavor is not as present as necessary and the lemony citrus flavor is a little too present. Still very tasty overall.

Mouthfeel: Average.

Drinkability: This is not a bad beer at all, the low scores on appearance and smell will bring down my overall ranking, but this beer is not bad.

Pours a slightly hazy gold with a solid white head and with the expected amount of carbonation. Bananas with a touch of clove was very detectable as I poured. A very rounded beer with just enough maltiness and hops to compete with the yeast. A good selection for summer drinking.

Light hazy straw color. Thick foamy head. Strong citrus aroma, with a faint hint of spice on the nose as well. Taste has a bit of alcohol to it. This could be an off flavor of the yeast. It is not overpowering and not overall displeasing, just different for style. As the drink reaches ½ glass, the flavors balance out more and become much more enjoyable.

Another bottle brought to me by a returning friend.

Poured into a weizen glass and wondered at the appearance. Head profile at first promised something, but never quite got started and what did faded to just a ring. Color was a pretty light yellow shade as well.

However, the aroma was rather nice and surprising. I could sense the phenol-ester liquid awaiting inside. Yep, banana-clove was there and pleasing.

Must say a "not bad" on this one. Never know what you get here in the good ole US when it comes to the range of wheats (though by its name, my assumptions that it would be of the Bavarian style where not disappointed).

Poured a bright yellow with alot of carbonation with a head that fell quickly. Very clear for a hefe. Sweet and fruity aroma, I did smell malt (wheat maybe??) though. The taste is slightly fruity with a lingering malt and banana hint. Very drinkable, good lawn mower beer.
