Appearance: Deep orangish brown. The head dissipates rather quickly, but a nice ring of lacing sticks around.
Smell: There's a big caramel aroma coming from this beer. I can tell this is going to be malty!
Taste: And malty it is! There's a slight residual sweetness, but it isn't too pronounced. You can't taste the alcohol, but it does provide a pleasant and subtle warming effect. It's almost like the back of my tongue has been singed, without the pain from getting burned. The beer kind of affects the palate like spicy Mexican food (although it doesn't have the same flavors).
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, with enough carbonation to keep the sweet malt flavor in check, yet simultaneously smooth.
Drinkability: I feel like I could drink two or three bottles of this. The alcohol is so well-hidden that this beer could easily sneak up on you.
Notes: I had heard good things about Autumnal Fire, and it certainly lives up to my expectations. It more than holds its own with the classic German doppelbocks. This style, and especially this specific beer, would be a great way to introduce someone to the world of well-crafted malty lagers.

2012 release; poured into a goblet
A: Clear amber. Some lacing. An off-white half finger head that dissipates quickly.
S: Bready malts, grain, hay, barley.
T: Sweet, malty with molasses and bourbon heavily mixed in. Nutty. A bit of chocolate. Very smooth. Almost like a shot of Kentucky bourbon. Nice.
M: Medium with medium carbonation.
O: Looks like a year really set this one straight. A great sipper. The bourbon really makes this one a solid brew.
