This weissbier is almost banana peel yellow with a creamy head when served. The retention on top and lacing around the glass are at good levels. Its aroma brings some lemon to the table and vague fruitiness, not the high level of goodness that I've come to expect out of Bavaria. A little of the hope returns though. The taste offers notes of gala apple, then lemon and banana, and a mild clove spiciness. The beer is lighter-medium, with bubbly carbonation.

Not a bad weissbier out of Huber. Fine afternoon refresher.

Glass: Weihenstephaner weizen glass

Huber's hefeweizen includes classic elements of a German wheat beer (wheat malt, bananas, obvious yeast, some phenols, light citrus/herbs) in good proportions. While perhaps not as complex as a few others I've had, this is still a top-notch hefeweizen, and would easily be a solid go-to if it were available in North America.

Pours a huge, fluffy, slightly off-white head made up primarily of small, dense bubbles: the resulting appearance is quite frothy, not quite meringue-like. Head retention is excellent, as I'd expect from any hefeweizen, and gradually leaves significant, large clumps of lacing along sides of the galss. Body is an opaque golden yellow color, with orange hues that are accentuated, along with pale yellow ones, in the light. Carbonation is active and visible, streaming along sides and center of glass.

Aroma is very nice, strongly of ripe banana fruit, peel, and oil along with a sweet, yeasty bread scent as well. Not as complex as others, but still pleasant.

Taste overall is of sweet, ripe banana fruit mixed with yeast, and some light bread. Front of palate detects diluted lemon rind, wheat malt, and banana fruit. Mid-palate of yeasty wheat bread, ripe banana fruit, hints of coriander, and spicy phenols. Back of palate has a slight chemical harshness, but otherwise composed of sweet, ripe bananas, bread, and yeat. Aftertaste is sweet, with ripe banana fruit mixed with yeast.

Body is medium-bodied, with surprisingly soft, but palpable, carbonation. Closes very dry and with a residual sweetness that makes taking another sip quite desirable.

500ml bottle

A- Bright, slightly hazy golden colour. Healty, soft looking, white head; maybe not as huge as for other weizens but nicely persistent. Moderate lacing. Loads of carbonation bubbles going up underneath the head

S- Bready notes on the low side, barely detectable, still dominant sweetness though, with citric/fruity notes, expecially lemon. Slight mineral feel on the back of things

T- Delicate, soft bready malts on the back of things. A pleasant, slightly tart feel opens up the way to a nice wave of citric flavours (lemon, orange), apple also shows up as well as maybe a hint of vanilla. Nice dose of clove-like spiciness to make things more lively

M- Soft mouthfeel on both tongue and palate as to be expected from the style. Average, spot-on carbonation. Nothing remarkable, just nicely fitting with the beer's overall feel

O- Picked up a random weizen as a summer refreshing beer. Turned out quite lucky, this is no doubt a quality weizen: refreshing, quite complex, perfectly balanced

Pours a hazy orange color with a fluffy white head that fades rather quickly leaving spotted lacing around the glass.

Smell is zesty with notes of yeast and lemon

Taste is dry, spicy, has some lemon in the mix. Banana toward the end. Dry lingering finish.

Not a bad beer

Third beer of my German tasting evening, 2nd July 2010. This brown half litre bottle was poured into one of my 'Franziskaner' Weissbier glasses (the beer was best before 3rd Nov 2010).

This is one of the best Hefeweizen I've had, very impressed: The beer had a great cloudy body, leaning towards the orange side of dirty yellow, the cracking white head was a stayer, lasting to the last drop of beer.

The nose was all you'd expect, great waves of vanilla with banana esters following up behind, lovely. Nutmeg appeared in the mix too.

Refreshing and very drinkable, the usual hefeweizen flavours combining to produce a very good beer and one I'll look out for in future.

Eyes:
Poured into a tall Zwiefalter Kloster Weizen glass. I like to use this glass for reviews because its hourglass shape presents the beer in a voluptuous bulbous form tapering to a shapely waist. In front of a bright window the larger cross section reveals the color in deep hues.

The pour begins with a pale yellow developing into a bright golden orange as the glass fills, with a fine yeast fog. Even with the broken sunshine today this beer has a deep orange honey aspect. Light watery head quickly subsides suggesting this beer might lack the richness I had hoped for. Not so.

Nose:
Toasted malt, green banana, and more than a hint of mineral/metallic tang.

Tongue:
Begins with a lemony tart flavor quickly rolling into a rich toasted malt with a light dry finish. Moderately sweet without the syrupy aftertaste, and moderately rich. Hops are mildly present the whole time without becoming a nuisance.

Belch:
Green apple? Mild and pleasant.

Overall, this is a tasty beer nicely balancing tart and rich flavors, and finishing clean. Sweet enough to warrant a spot in my little black book. Light on the palate and very drinkable, especially as part of a balanced Münchner breakfast with Weiss wurst and sweet mustard.

Serving type: 0,5 liter returnable bottle, cost €0.65 at my local drink market.

A- The appearance was a nice golden yellow with a nice clean head that remained for much of the beer. Could clearly see the suspended yeast.
S- Smell was very fruity banana, and clove with a hint of yeast and bublegum.
T-Taste was of banana and clove at the first and more yeast came through after. More yeaste and did not detect any hops in the taste.
M- Clean and mellow on the toungue, not sharp like some weizens can feel due to yeaste or over hoppiness.
D- This is a very enjoyable beer that could be easyiable sessioned. In my opinion one of my favorite Hefewiezens.

pours a yellowish brown with a decent head that recedes rather quickly. smells of the typical tasty hefeweizen. Tastes of the normal banana and clove, with an almost lemony zest and pepper. slight undesirable twang of standard ale doesn't take away too much. Fairly thin in the mouthfeel, carbonation adds to spice and pepper taste. Could definitely finish a couple or more. Maybe not quite as complex as some others of the same style, but very good nonetheless.

A: Pours a cloudy, pale-yellow. Bright white one finger head. Very creamy.

S: Very nice aromas of banana, clove, bubblegum, and lemony citrus.

T: Tart citrus right off the bat with banana, clove, and toasted malt. Very subdued spicyness.

M: Starts tart, turns spicy, and finishes creamy.

D: Excellent, very refreshing!

Aroma of zesty lemons with banana undertones. Smells like a hefeweizen/witbier hybrid. Dense, creamy, bright white head holds strong leaving patches of solid lace. Hazing, glowing yellow beer. Flavor is on the light side. Light lemon zest underlain by barely detectable dougy banana notes. There is a faint grainy bite at the end that seems out of place. The yeasty flavors are more evident in my burp then in the beer, bummer. Mouthfeel is headed towards watery, and lacks the full fluffy mouthfeel I expect with Hefeweizens. Disappointing. Not bad, but lacking.

The famous Weissbier from Freising-Weihenstephan. That's what brewmaster students drink after lectures or even instead of lectures. Tastes best at the Huber Braustuberl in the former Huber Brewery. The beer is made since about 30 years at the Freisinger hofbrauhaus. Still an excellent Weissbier with high drinkability. Brings back good memories from my time at Weihenstephan!

Hazy appearance, orange in color. Big white fluffy head, very creamy.
Not banana in the smell, but some spices (cloves and green pepper), wheat and yeast,
At the taste again wheat and yeast, pratically non banana. Spicy again, quite evident, and at the end some hint of fresh spices (anise? Juniper?).
Medium body.
The aftertaste is on the same line, with a sharp spicy note.
Relatively less sweet than a classic weizen.

Appearance:

Crystal gold with inch thick head; very effervescent.

Smell:

Crisp with citrus aromas and yeasty undertones.

Taste/Mouthfeel:

Ahh, everything a wheat should be. The first sip gets the mouth buds puckering with its crisp acidity followed by a dry finish that leaves a lingering banana flavor.
