Enjoyed this one at the cafe just outside the Abbey. It's been a bit so I'll dust off the memory cells & do my best. The unlabeled bottle makes you feel that either you're having a homebrew session with the monks or you've acquired something of dubious legal status. Nothing nearly so exotic, though. Poured very similar to the normal Orval, golden with a hint of red and a bit of cloud. It seems more carbonated, though, with larger, more insistent bubbles. Smell was also similar, sharp and spicy, cloves and nutmeg. Taste was a bit dissapointing but probably only because of my expectations. It tastes (again) similar to the standard offering but the flavors are more muted. Pepper and cloves with a very dry, hoppy, slightly acidic finish. Really, it tastes for all the world like you diluted an Orval with water. Drinkability is good b/c of the lower alcohol content and because of the beer's light, delicate quality. All in all, an experience not to be missed if you're in Southern Belgium or you know someone who will mule for you.

June 2016: 330 ml unlabelled bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Brown color, large white head. Aroma and flavour very much like the ordinary Orval, with "farmhouse" and "spicy" notes, distinct hops. It is quite impressive that so much flavour can be put into a beer of this moderate ABV.

Darker in color and more bitter than I expected. Served on draft walking distance from Orval. Lingering hop bitterness.

11-19-16 - Toured the Abbey today, picked up a box of 12 bottles and then went to lunch at the nearby Le Guardian Angel. They served an Orval on tap into their signature green label goblet.

From trade with BenBreeg. In Teku glass. Playing Tomb Raider 2015. Lots of foam although not gushing. Very acid in nose. Less acid in mouth but still not a thing I can enjoy. Wont miss they dont bottle it anymore but Im happy to have the chance of trying it

Only available at the cafe at the abbey of Orval. It looks like an ordinary Orval (can an Orval be ordinary?), but with green letters on the glass instead of blue ones, giving it a 'limited-edition aura'. Smell of yeast and malt. The taste is where this beer differs from the regular Orval. Due to the lower abv and serving temperature, the hops have their chance to shine. Very good hoppy taste of flowers and grass. As this beer warms up, it gets an aftertaste of grapefruit I tend to associate with IPA's. Guess the Orval monks are hopheads avant-le-lettre. Very good beer. By itself, not worth an entire trip to Belgian Luxembourg, but if you happen to be around, be sure to drop by and visit the abbey as well.
