After a failed attempt to visit Bier Circus (they were closed), we strolled on down the hill to try the "new and improved" Poechenellekelder (according to Tim Webb).
We tried several very nice beers: Gouyasse Tripel, Forestine (a spruce beer, very nice if you like that sort of thing), and Kapittel Prior ON TAP (Lovely, dark, sweet, with that Abbey-something) (also a sort of unremarkable St. Martin Brune). We agree that this was a better selection than on our last visit in 2003.
A nice and convenient option. Not in my top 3 destinations, but a fine stop along the way if you have time for a slightly more extensive bar tour. We were here mid-day so we had no smoke and fine (if naive) service from the bar back (we were the only people inside).

Forget Manneke Piss... you can see him when you make your way to this café. The selection here is great and you should definitely stay for a brew or two. The atmosphere is the reason to go here. Having been multiple times I believe the winter or damp cold days are the best. The place is generally quite packed and has a good combination of locals and tourist as clientele.

Happened upon this bar while wondering around the Grand Place. It is directly adjacent to the Mannequin Pis, so sitting outside you are basically watching throngs of tourists line up to photograph themselves. Even with that, it is still a great location. Service wasn't great, but it seemed to be just two guys taking care of the entire patio area, so the effort was there, just perhaps could have used more staffing. I'd happily go back.

A most interesting stop on my first Brussels beer sortee October 2013.
I didn't come to see the boy statue taking a pee, nor to look at the tourists having their picture taken in front of him. I came to visit one of the most unique beer drinking places on earth. I was fortunate to sit beside the General Montgomery mannequin, several locales waxed poetic as they walked by 'The Liberator of Brussels'. If I described the rest of the interior, you still wouldn't believe me: marionettes everywhere, a great breweriana collection. a nice cool vibe, and a great wait staff, I never had to wait for a beer on a pretty busy night and it was always delivered with a smile. A decent selection of the usual suspects in bottles. While I didn't eat, the quality and the portions looked quite good, especially the lasagna which should be enough for two hungry people. Prices are ala Grand Place, cash only. Did I really visit this place or was it some type of evil dream. I can tell you with some confidence, you will never visit another beer place on earth like Le Poechenellekelder. An absolutely essential stop, I'd suggest getting trashed at Delirium and coming over here and listening to Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles on the soundtrack.
