The label looked so manly I had to try it - lol. Just gave it a closer look and I see that it actually has a bottled on date: October 13, 2016. I wish more of our local breweries included that info.
A: Brown / dark amber, cloudy.
S: Roasted grains.
T: Nice. Toasty grains, a bit nutty.
F: Very smooth, satisfying mouthfeel.

650ml bottle - thanks again, Lee, for your generosity on the craft beer front - not to mention supporting your little bro - hey Robyn!
This beer pours a kind of hazy, dark bronzed amber colour, with a roiling tumult of puffy, finely foamy, and fizzy tan head, which leaves a bit of sudsy ocean swell lace around the glass as things quickly subside.
It smells of grainy and bready caramel malt, a strong earthy nuttiness, cafe-au-lait, some faint smoky ashiness, a touch of wayward son yeast, ethereal bittersweet chocolate, and plain weedy, leafy, and musty hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet grainy caramel malt, a hovering free-range ashy essence, the parts of a slice of brown bread that my toddler will definitely not eat, still wan cocoa powder, day-old milked coffee, a lesser earthen nutty character, and more understated weedy, leafy, and herbal Anglo-friendly hoppiness.
The bubbles are rather active in their dance of foam and other frothy palatal taunting, the body a so-so medium weight, and genuinely smooth - no interlopers messing with the cause here. It finishes trending dry, the various candy bar esters dropping away, except for that generic nuttiness - it has a life of its own, apparently.
Overall, not a bad brown ale, but I fail to see the American connections - this is northern England all the way (I mean that in a nice way - though Newcastle Brown Ale is still shit to me). Grainy, gritty, and with a full complement of fleeting (in the end) nutty chocolate notes. Tasty, and easy to drink, especially if you're a fan of the general style.

L: Copper colour, clear, one inch of thick, white head
S: Caramel, bread crust, earthy, subtle chocolate notes
T: Bread crust, light caramel, some chocolate notes too, a slight bitterness, slight malt sweetness
F: Medium body, fairly rich mouthfeel, good carbonation, finish is ever so slightly sweet but bitterness is just noticeable
O: Hell of a good take on a classic english-style brown ale, good complexity in the malt flavours and aromas, with a subtle bitterness - some earthy hop aromas come through too

Hardy Brown Ale - 5.5% 21 IBU - pours a light brown colour with a thin tan head that quickly rims the glass. The nose is very mild a bit of maltiness and smoke. The smoke steps forward on the taster, with a malty sweetness coming in behind. No hops to be found.
