A: Pours a dark black body with a touch of dark drown along the edges. Head is fluffy dark mocha at three fingers. Retention is decent and without lacing.

S: Notes of roasted coffee beans, chocolate. Very mild and one dimensional.

T: Very weak flavours consisting of mild roasted coffee beans and some chocolate. There flavour fades just as quickly as it enters.

M: Light bodied and low carbonation. Texture is water like and leaves a very off bitter after taste.

O: I was very displeased with this beer, the taste, mouthfeel and aftertaste were very bad.

Appearance: It has a nice jet black color to it. It has a nice thick head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of roasted malts, rich coffee and dark chocolate.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has alot of roasted malts, bitter coffee, some dark chocolate and a slight earthiness.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with decent flavors and aromas.

English pint type serving, served too cold.

Appearance : Pitch black, completly opaque, thick tan head with medium retention, light lacing.

Aroma : Bitter Chocolate, nut, yeasty, light earthy hop

Taste : Bitter Chocoloate, light to medium torrefaction, lightly alchoolic , good bitterness (for the style)

Mouthfeel : too much carbonation for a britanic style beer. light to medium body, pretty long final

Overall : Good Beer easy to drink

La Bilboquet Corriveau served in a small snifter.

Clear(?) reddish-brown but dark. Still, perhaps a bit light for style. Decent tan head and lacing.

Medium-light body; medium-low carbonation.

Moderately rich flavor of medium and dark roasted grains with a touch of burnt and smoky aspects.

Aftertaste is relatively bitter, burnt and not so clean compared to earlier on.

Pours pitch black with a deliciously creamy brownish tan head. Excellent retention and lovely lacing.

Smells like an oatmeal stout should. Creamy chocolate and coffee notes with some nutty undertones, burnt malt and booze.

Unoffensive. Smooth at first and increasingly bitter. The burnt pizza crust in the "Bros'" review is spot on! Dirt, coffee grounds and chocolate.

Round and full bodied. A tinge of astringency but overall really warm and creamy. Good carbonation and a nice mellow finish.

Overall this is a really solid beer. I have had better oatmeal stouts, but I have had far, far worse. It would be a good session beer and would be a good one to try; it has a lot of the good things about other oatmeal stouts and very few of the bad things (it isn't overly 'oaty' and the malt isn't very sweet on the whole). Would drink again.

500 ml bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. The brew smells like roasted/charred malt, dark fruit (blackberries, cherries, plums), coffee, and some chocolate. It tastes like dark fruit (plums, cherries), coffee, roasted malt, bittersweet and milk chocolate, oats/grain and a bit of licorice. Gets sweeter tasting as the beer warms up more. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a little slick/coating with a decent amount of carbonation. I think it's a good sweet/oatmeal stout. I'd pick this one up again. $7.99 a bottle.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Nearly black w/ ruby highlights; solid tan lacing

SMELL: Burnt pizza crust, licorice root, dried plums, vegetal, nutty yeast, milk chocolate, breakfast blend coffee

TASTE: Charred grain, burnt cherries, faint licorice, cocoa powder, molasses, mild coffee, inner oat sweetness, modest hopping, kiss of yeast, hint of esters; semidry, roasty finish

This one snuck up on us—you really have to let it reach the proper serving temperature to appreciate the brewer’s intention. White it’s not your benchmark silky-smooth, black-colored Stout, it holds true to what it is and gives something more than the usual does. Real beer.

500ml bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.

A: Pours deep black, nearly opaque. Very thick, creamy tan head won't budge. Rings of lacing stripe the glass on the way down.

S: Tight blackberry darkfruit, cocoa and milk chocolate, ash and charcoal, roasted coffee beans, earthy and starchy oats, faint acidity.

T: Char and roast up front. Tight berry-like darkfruit pops up from time to time. Bitter dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Faint burnt malt acidity. Roasted grain. Starchy oat tastes build toward the end. Hints of green hop tastes. Roasted grain and oats on the finish.

M: Medium bodied. Sits in the mouth with a bit of weight. Silky and creamy. Lightly astringent. Low carbonation.

O: A nice oatmeal stout. Could do with a bit more carbonation to lift the body.

Notes: The going rate for a 500ml bottle of this is about $8-9, depending on where you go. A bit pricey in my opinion. It seems to sit on the shelves, and bottle shops in VT have been marking these down. They're going to need to lower prices if they want to compete. Not sure how these guys do in the Canadian beer market, but there's some stiff competition up there.
