Pours a very dark copper color with almost an inch of light brown head.

The smell is wonderful. It includes very fragrant tropical fruits, similar to fruit punch mixed with ginger ale. As the head settles the aroma darkens and becomes more like that of dark sweet fruits, cola, caramel, and just a faint hint of coffee. It's like chefs are facing off with desert in the same kitchen. Wow.

Flavor fits well with the smell. one of the more flavorful beers that I have had recently. It's kind of like an alcoholic breakfast. There are notes of dark dried fruits like figs and raisins, a bit of french toast, a bit more coffee than is present in the smell, and some alcohol, like a bourbon. The alcohol has a stronger presence than I would like it to have.

Medium high tingling in the mouth and a hint of tannic character comparable to what you would find in tea.

Heavier ale, high alcohol content, but very tasty. Crisp notes coupled with a scotch up-front and more sour finish.

Appearance - dark brown and woody

Smell - Scotch, smoke, chocolate, and dark berries

Taste - Even without leaning too far towards either scotch or a crisp ale--somewhere in between a porter and a dark ale

Mouthfeel - Leaves you wanting another sip, possibly too much alcohol present, but coats the tongue nicely. Slightly thick.

Overall, very pleasant. Would share because of the ABV. Eat with a salty snack... possibly pretzels.

Bottle bought at random at a newly-opened bottle shop.

A - Quite nice. Minimal head but nice lacing. Caramel color.
S - Lots of sweetness and dried fuits here.
T - Almost cloyingly sweet. Raisins, prunes, caramel. Malt in the backend but it's having trouble coming through the sweetness.
M - slightly more thin than I would like for the style, but not bad.
O - Not bad for random choice off the shelf, but this brew doesn't quite make it.

My review may sound a bit like I am slamming this beer but I am trying my best to be truthful while at the same time having a bit of fun with a beer that truly disappointed me.

Carbonation is flat as hell. I even tried to enhance it by pouring from on high at the end. I think you could pour this stuff from a step ladder and not get any head. There is more fizz in a glass of water from the tap.

Mouth feel is watery and filmy at the same time. It has a bit of film that lingers for quite a while.

Too sweet. An overwhelming taste of watered down honey and maple syrup.

The smell is like somewhere between medicine and a melted Bunny Bread sack.

After taste is somewhere between lime and old whiskey barrel.

Overall, I would give it a score of about 60.

Will I drink it? Yes, but only because I spent $12 on it.

On second thought, I think I will dump it and drink a Lattitude 48 IPA from Samuel Adams.

Maybe I don’t understand what a Scotch Ale is.

Honey Scotch Ale served in a small snifter.
Very dark reddish amber with a fairly good, durable, light brown head.
Wonderful aroma, suggestive of a fine Belgian dark ale. Very fruity, with dark ripe fruit including dates, figs, raisins. Only a light touch of peat smoke. A tad too sweet?

O: Very tasty and enjoyable. True to style? Not exactly; rather sweet for one thing and too fruity. But wonderfully fruity and not too sweet. Just leave your preconceptions behind.

500 ml bottle brought home from Gatineau.

A very dark brown with an inch and a half thick cappuccino-coloured head. The heavy lacing covered the glass from top to bottom.

A mild aroma of sweet cake with a whiff of flowery perfume.

Strong taste of cloying sweetness of malt and honey. A very heavy malty brew. There is an alcoholic after taste but it was not overwhelming. I was not impressed at first but the taste grew on me as I sipped.

A heavy oily feel.

Overall this ale is more sweet than it is malty. There is a lack of the bite of hops bitterness. Enjoyable. I will look for this flower again.

appearance: Very dark burgundy. Some ruby highlights. Thick tan head. Messy lacing that recedes pretty quickly. Handsome brew.
smell: Very nice nose. A rich buttery honey malt.
taste: The taste doesn't disappoint. Quite mellow. Honey and malt.
overall: Never had this before (or anything from this brewery I could never pronounce). Very nice surprise. Dangerously drinkable.

Poured a blackish body with tan head on top of a sweet caramel malt smell with hints of roasted and bitter chocolate and of course some honey and floral hops. Medium to thick bodied, passes smooth and creamy with a good balance of sweetness (honey, caramel, dark fruit?, then something akin to chocolate) and dry ,roasted malt, something like bread or toast and coffee and the alcohol kicks it up a notch and it's a slightly boozy but rewarding finish. Good balance and a very enjoyable sipper.
