Appearance: It has a nice jet black color to it. It has a nice thick mocha colored head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice spotty lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of coffee, dark chocolate roasted malts and some vanilla.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some coffee notes upfront, some bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts and some really faint vanilla.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel but it's a touch on the light bodied side.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with decent flavors and aromas.

500ml bottle - a cannon-shot, eh? Bring it on, mes amis!

This beer pours a fairly solid black abyss, yet with prominent brown cola basal edges, and three fingers of puffy, rocky, and chunky beige head, which leaves some decent layered and webbed lace around the glass as it slowly sinks away.

It smells of astringent dark-roasted espresso, semi-sweet cream, grainy and lightly toasted caramel malt, nutty chocolate, further free-range ash, and maybe a hint of crushed vanilla beans. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, well-roasted coffee beans, real vanilla, slightly soured cream, hazelnut butter, cocoa powder, a touch of Scandinavian licorice, and more roving ashiness.

The carbonation is quite understated in its plain Jane frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, just a bit of java acridity and general ashiness mucking up a few of my palates, as such. It finishes off-dry, the toasty caramel malt holding the lingering coffee character's face to the curb.

Overall, this ain't a bad juiced-up stout, the coffee essence doing well to represent. Kind of thin around the middle (which normally isn't a baaad thing, per se), but generally it holds itself well. Worthy of checking out, if ya likes the cuppa joe 'brews'.

Poured in opaque chocolate-black color with a three finger head which slowly subsides.

Very strong aroma. Quite excellent. Very very dark roast coffee, almost burnt.

MF: mouth feel is very smooth and malty. I am not sure how other reviewers could call this a light bodied beer. The body and MF match the style.

The taste is excellent, although at first the coffee was too pronounced and over roasted. This smooths out with warming.

The finish is dry and malty with light coffee works well with the style.

I don't quite understand the ratings. The beer is quite well done. I picked up a bottle in Quebec City.
It's a coffee ale or stout. An English pint glass is best.

Coup De Canon has a head that shoots out the bottle like a cannon; the foamy mass sits over top the beer like a monument. Heck, the lacing appears as though it will last forever. The liquid itself, an extremely dark but not entirely impenetrable black, also looks like a stain that'd be hard to get out.

What from a distance smelled like a chocolaty French pastry quickly becomes a stiff, near-acrid shot of Italian espresso as the nose draws nearer to the glass. Further inspection reveals more of that roasted coffee flavour, though the initial milk chocolate and Nutella-like character never fades entirely.

Despite those roasted hazelnut, arabica bean and cocoa qualities, the taste fails to impress. For one thing there's an odd metallic twang and some signs of oxidation (despite that, so far as I'm aware, this is a fresh bottle). It's agreeable but words like "decadent" or "delicious" can be left on the shelf.

Anyone who's played percussion knows the angle and impact you strike the drum makes a difference; one can smash a symbol so that a loud, elongated, crashing sound rings out or simply tap it with the end of the drumstick so as to make a crisp, contained and hasty 'ding'. This one does the latter.

And, let's face it, the best coffee stouts have reverberation (regardless of their alcohol content). This figuratively flat flavour has nowhere the richness I'd hope for and sits on the palate like wet, stale coffee grinds, the bitterness and astringency gradually seeping in and replacing any redeeming dessert flavour.

Just when I'm ready to endorse Le Bilboquet they present me with another lackluster, questionably market-ready product. This brewery is a roller-coaster ride that ranges from really good to downright regrettable. Coup De Canon isn't a waste of money but it's certainly not money well spent.

A:
Pours pitch black and kind of viscous looking with three fingers of fluffy tan head that settles slowly to a decent film. Good retention; little swoops of lacing. (3.75)

S:
Coffee and roasty malts. Baker's chocolate, coffee, roast nuts, dark bread, molasses. (3.75)

T:
Roasty coffee malts. Coffee, bitter cocoa, old rag, steel. (3.5)

M:
Thin and fairly fizzy, slightly lingering aftertaste. (3.5)

O:
Pretty okay beer, but far from amazing.
Pours nice enough. The aroma is pretty inviting and showcases the malt character well. The flavor, however, isn't really there. It is too thin, too bubbly, not full/bold tasting whatsoever. Not bad, but not good either.
Might have again; not worth avoiding, but not worth searching for either. (3.5)

Draft: Poured a black color stout with a small dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coffee is dominant but not overly dry with some roasted malt notes. Taste is a great mix between some dry roasted malt with some good notes of coffee with light black chocolate notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Well brewed with great balance to avoid too much dryness.

Bottle 180 of 2000. Black body with a thin cover of cream-white head. No lacing.

Cardboard, dust and boiled broccoli are the first thing I notice on the nose; not too pleasant. Light roast malt, coffee and minerals underneath.

The off-scents don't show up in the mouth, thankfully, but what's here is pretty bland. Weak roast malt, stale drip coffee, dusty hops, bit of cocoa, touch of caramel sweetness. Dirty coffee grounds linger in the mouth.

Medium-light body and a touch over-carbonated. Nothing too bad.

This is average at best. The coffee ends up tasting cheap and the rest of the beer is uninteresting. I drink a lot of good coffee; however the coffee was incorporated here isn't working for me. Not one of the better coffee stouts I've tried.
