The Ponce de Leon location of Green's Discount Beverage Store is located to the northeast of downtown Atlanta. The less adventurous type may not necessarily feel safe going to this location by themselves, but the average person who is not afraid of "The City" shouldn't feel very threatened at this location. The store is a package liquor store that has wine, spirits, and beer (on the right hand side from the entrance, and around the corner to the end of the store). The beer section may seem slightly cramped if there are a lot of people, especially towards the back of the beer section where the outside wall of the building comes closer to the coolers. There is another Green's location in Atlanta on Buford Hwy, but this review is only for the Ponce de Leon location.

Quality - Most of the beers that we bought at Green's were of high quality when we drank them. It seemed like there would be a decent turnover of products in the store, although there were a few beers on the shelves that looked like they might have been sitting there for quite a while. This Green's location does feature a temperature controlled beer cellar which is home to a rather nice selection of Belgian beers as well as a few other choice products.

Service - The store was busy for most of our visit in the late afternoon, but the employees were helpful once you had waited for them to assist you. One nice thing to know that we were told by several employees was that you can receive a discount if you pay with cash instead of credit. Good information to know for next time.

Selection - You'll probably be pleased at the selection of products and breweries you see on the shelves, but you'll be in beer heaven when you find the temperature controlled beer cellar closer to the non-beer portions of the store. Be careful in here... it can be a tight fit with three or more people. Our visit was during the winter holiday season, so there were lots of appropriate seasonal options available. There were beers from Terrapin, Great Divide, Ommegang, Sweetwater, and Allagash, as well as many other domestic and international breweries.

Value - While the beers here did not have the lowest prices I have ever seen, the value was pretty good for a location inside the city. The extra discount you can receive for paying with cash knocks this one over the top in terms of value, and the available selection makes this a must stop shop for a visit into Atlanta. (2,440 characters)

Huge store that looks kind of ghetto from the outside but I was very impressed with their HUGE selection of craft beers and their huge bomber selection. Staff was not very friendly. Not at all actually. But I would return if nothing but for their selection only. (265 characters)

This is a place I avoided (not great neighborhood or people) until I realized they had a large walkin cooler in the back with tons of single beer selections. The sour selection is the best I have found in Atlanta. But not just sours, basically a very large and diverse selection of quality beers. They have an ipad set up in the cooler with BA open to look up new or unfamiliar beers. Prices are quite good also. I actually drive all the way downtown (45 minutes) just to get beer here. (493 characters)

I live OTP Atlanta and don't get into town all that often, but when I do, I always try to hit Green's. It doesn't hurt that it's right across the street from one of my favorite fast food joints (Chipotle). The selection is outstanding with a lot of cooler space. There's a large walk-in cooler in the back with a lot of good stouts, Belgian, and sours. I've never had much interaction with the staff, so I'm not sure how knowledgeable they are. They don't do singles or mix-a-six. I don't get there often enough to catch any special releases. The only negative is they charge a higher price for using a credit card, which I thought was illegal, but somehow they get away with it. (686 characters)

Atmosphere is a bit ghetto as it sits next to a Kroger once penned "Murder Kroger" because of transients. Service was semi knowledgeable but pleasant. The selection and price are great and that makes it more than worth the trip. It's also a reasonable convenient location, which helps. No food. (294 characters)

If you happen to be around midtown its a great place to stop.
The area its not the most fancy one and i happened to drive by when on my way to the Wrecking Pub, they got a pretty good selection of local and imports, great prices when compared to Wine and More and even some sales, i got an Ommegang box with 3 or 4 beers + a glass for a mere 11 bucks, they have a pretty good selection of Belgian beers on a separated room and even there they had some stuff on sale.
Didn't ask for help but it appears only a couple of the employees know their trade (551 characters)

Since Green's has added a walk in beer cooler full of single beers I've been going there at least 3 times a week. There's prob around 500 different beers there from all over the world so there is a great selection to choose from. In the room they also have a table set up on beer advocate so it makes it great to do a quick look up on a new beer. they also have a cash and debit price so bring cash to get a better deal. outside of the walk in cooler they also have a decent selection of 4 packs and six packs that are not you typical grocery store beers. As far as knowledgeable beer associates its kinda hard to find one. Not to sound racist by any means but this location is kinda in the ghetto and mostly black people working there and none of them have ever been any help with picking out a new beer, but the two white guys I've seen working there have been very knowledgeable of the beers they have, again not to be racist but that is just how it is there ;P . the staff has always been very friendly and it is a total pleasure to shop here. I go here instead of the larger beer/liquor stores like tower wine.

Green's will also order in a case of bottles if you are looking for something that they don"t carry. so just let them know and in a week or so they should have some available. (1,292 characters)

Atmosphere: I mean, it's a beer/booze store, so not much to say - it's in a neighborhood that is kind of on the cusp of decent (getting a little bourgeois) to rough (I wouldn't walk there at night unless I was carrying). The store is cool though, decently organized. I do wish there was more space, though. It's tight in spots but being in the middle of a city, you do what you've gotta do with the space available.

Quality: Fair, lots of Georgia beers along with the BMC stuff, but there's a walk-in cooler with their Belgians and some other imports. If I had more of a disposal income, I'd make a dent in it.

Service: Again, not a whole lot to say about it -- they don't really do much other than stock the shelves and check out the customers, but at this point in my life, that's all I ask for.

Selection: Hinted at above, lots of Georgia beers and a decent selection of imports in the cooler. Also, on a side note, decent whiskey/bourbon selection that always draws my attention as well -- getting some stuff from distilleries I didn't think I'd find outside of KY.

Food: N/A

Value: Decent - carry cash if you want the better price on items though as they've got a discount offered for those that pay with the green stuff. I don't think anyone would walk out feeling ripped off. (1,288 characters)

Stopped into Greens on a trip for work. I did a bit of research before going, just so I could bring back some stuff I cant get here on the west coast. I was really impressed/excited by the selection they have in the store. All the little treats I cant ever get in LA (BORIS, DORIS, Southern Tier, Terrapin, DuckRabbit, Various Belgian labels) The store is really an average liquor store, which doesnt bother me, as the beer selection is damn nice. I will say that the service was very friendly, but that's not hard to say when you live in LA, land of ignorance and indifference. I had a bottle of Jah-Va in my hand, and as I was checking out, the beer guy noticed my ST bottle and came up with a box of Creme Brulee and asked if I wanted one, as it just came in 5 mins ago... OF COURSE I DO! We chatted for a minute, and off I went to the airport. Overall, I really enjoyed coming here to Greens. I will definitely make a stop anytime I'm in Atlanta. Now to just bring a much bigger suitcase next time! (1,002 characters)
