My visit to Seven Bridges was a short and memorable one as I had heard mixed stories about the venue from the locals of Jacksonville, FL. Being an explorer of unknown beers and brewers, I made a determined visit to the Seven Bridges to see what made them famous.

As I moved in from a side door to the bar, I noted the venue only had its own beer on tap, but a full bar and wine selection was set up for the dining room. The beers were arranged and there was at least 2 rows of six taps to serve to customers with. Each of the beers had a full description on the menu.

I started with the Iron Horse Stout, which was a delightful and medium bodied ale with an abundance of chocolate in its mix. Richly rewarding to me, I was thinking of growlers of this already for watching NFL in the Fall. I also imagined all of the good foods to pair it with.

Then I chose the Brewmasters' Reserve, which was a unique Belgian-style I had not tasted in a while that was somewhat similar to Ommegang's Rare Vos.

Looking at the menu, I decided to try the Classic Buffalo wings, which proved to be ok, but tasted like they had been held, then quickly fried again. Ok, at best.

Before I left, I saw some encouraging signs of the bar/brewery's future and past actions: cask engines handles in working condition. The bartender informed me that the Brewmaster made casks occasionally and served them on Thursday nights.

While I might discount my food experience here and wait to try other menu options another time, the beers and the venue were good together in their 1940's look. I am looking forward to trying the other selections with friends in tow.

I have been going to their sister establishment Rag Time forever and have always meant to stop by here for a visit. My last trip to Jacksonville finally afforded me the opportunity.

Located kind of near the tony St. John’s Center, it is attractive inside and out.

There is a small outside area near the entrance. The hostess stand is right in front with the bar to the left and dinning to the right. The place has a two story celling over most of it. Notice the tanks on the second floor and then more back by the bathroom. Lots of wood and brick.

If I recall correctly, they had 6 regulars and two rotating beers on tap. They have a slightly different beer and food menu than Ragtime. Everyone in my party was happy with their choices. The fish tacos and Cobb salad were two that really received praise. Beers were to style and fresh (seperate reviews to follow).

Our service was good, professional, quick but not hovering. That is just the way I like it.

This is well worth a stop if you find yourself in this part of Jacksonville. I liked it much better than B.J.’s which is just about 1 mile away.

I went here on a Tuesday night for dinner. I arrived about 5:30pm so the place was littered with professionals ranging in age from 25 to 75. A decent crowd. The place was pretty big, void of any real atmosphere. Vacuous, kind of cookie cutter with a hint of English placidity. The bar was right in front of me when I walked in so I bellied up.

The servers were quite attentive and did a nice job. I wasnt in the mood to quiz them or test them but I overheard one of the teners explaining the beers and she sounded like she knew what she was talking about. I had an IPA and an imperial pilsner. The IPA was better and not a bad beer.

My food choice was a chicken cobb salad. The salad was good but the chicken was some kind of shredded chicken or something that had a weird consistency. It was definitely precooked but I am not sure how long ago. I prefer fresh cooked, warm chicken to cold, pre cooked, sliced chicken.

Prices were reasonable. I left without going over $20. Happy hour offers $1 off house beers and $2 off wines. I would return but get something else to eat. About 6 standard beers and two seasonal offerings, the Impy Pils and a Doppelbock.

A solid all around brewpub. The regular selections are quite good and they often have barrel-aged, casked and handpulled selections. It seems in recent years the seasonals have improved and new tappings occur more frequently. The food is above average for your typical brewpub and though service is hit or miss when sitting at a table, the bar staff is friendly, attentive and have excellent rapport with the regulars.

Week nights are generally the best time to go. They have a full bar as well which attracts a variable crowd from either your local hipsters to the late 20s early 30s customer service reps from one of the many companies which employ those entering the finance or insurance industries. Regardless the atmosphere is usually enjoyable.

Atmosphere - As you walk in the bar area is to your left with the dining area to the right with an open kitchen along the back wall. On the backside of the bar is a small game room with two pool tables which I haven't seen at any other brewpub. For a corporate brewpub it has a pretty decent feel to it corporate but doing its own thing.

Quality/Selection - They had eight house beers on tap plus an espresso stout on cask. The taps were also a decent range of styles from a light lager to a stout and three bigger beers for the beer geeks a Saison, Belgian Pale, and a DIPA. Overall a good selection of house beers making it easy for everyone to have a style they'll like.

Service - I sat at the bar during my visit and the bartender was on her game. She got my beer to me quickly and knew a decent bit about the beers on tap. When not busy she would chat with different people at the bar which is always nice and doesn't happen enough anymore.

Food - During my visit I ordered a pizza that was a decent size and tasted very good. The food that others were getting looked good too and they all seemed happy.

Overall this is a good place to go to and have a few beers and get a good meal.

This is a big brewpub near a shopping district and movie theater. The building is large and looks like many chain establishments but is very clean and spacious. I stopped by with a buddy to do one of their samplers. The waitress was very nice and attentive and did her best to explain the flight to us. While her descriptions of the beers seemed rehearsed or coached, they were accurate and well said. She used nice descriptors and added a little history behind the beers. The beers were o.k, with the maibock and cask I.P.A standing out. I would drink either one if I was stuck in the area. I was here around noon and there was a group of older gentlemen at the bar who all seemed to know each other but arrived at different times. They all drank the light lager and seemed to love it. The appeared to have a great time and really like the place which is a testament to the establishment. Thats what beer bars are all about IMO.

We stopped by for a laugh (we were in a pretentious mood) but ended up having fun and really digging the cask IPA. I have never been to a chain brewpub before and always turned my nose up at them, but 7 bridges showed me that they can be fun and that they play an intricate role in beer advocacy. The old guys were drinking the house light lager and therefore drinking craft beer which I thought was cool.

Edit: I forget to mention the sweet magnolia brown ale. It was super tasty!

Seven Bridges Grille and Brewery, part of the Gordon Birsch group, is a large stand alone brewpub near the trendy suburban shopping area just outside Jacksonville. The main door opens on the hostess stand and the restaurant portion that has perhaps 50 tables and booths. To the left the large bar area also has some booths and tables and about 50 seats around the bar and by the perimeter shelves. The four year round beers are dictated by the larger corporation, but the two seasonals and the hand pull are unique to this restaurant. All the beers were tasty and seemed true to style. The brewing operation is visible on the upper balcony. The barmaid said the manager would be glad to give me a tour, but because of time constraints, I had to refuse. The food looked good and the portions were large, but seemed quite pricey.

I would recommend using Map Quest to get directions here. It's off the beaten path to be sure.

The entry was through a short vestibule with the m.d.s. to the left and a cabinet for both wine storage and logo items to the right. The rectangular bar was off to the left of the m.d.s., surrounded by high tables and chairs between the m.d.s. and the bar. To the left of the bar were three green-felt topped billiards tables. Also in the bar area was a doorway leading to an outdoor patio area. A line of stools and a shelf ran along the left wall past the bar. The kitchen was extensive and ran the length of the back wall. The right side of the m.d.s. was their restaurant area. Brewhouse on second floor visible behind glass. Also to the extreme left were the SVs and a rack of wood barrels.

Big news: this is part of the Gordon Biersch chain! No wonder it felt so familiar walking in. Now, for you chain scoffers, dig a GB Group doing cask and on a regular basis. This is some experimental stuff, to boot. The brewer apparently had no compunction again using jalapeno peppers. Zounds! Mole cask Stout.

Beers: Southern Flyer Light Lager; Southside Pilsner; Toll Tender IPA; Sweet Magnolia; Iron Horse Stout.
Seasonal: Wheat Beer.

Cask (!) - Espresso Stout.

I have been to 7B ~12 or so time over the past 10 years. The beer has never really impressed me in the past. The last time I went 7/7/2009, the brew was light years better than my previous experience. I was able to chat and get an informal tour from the GM "Brian". He is agreat guy, was very generous with his time and hospitality. He learned that I was a homebrewer and showed me the brew areas and even the Cascade hop bines on the roof! Thanks for a great time Brian! I believe the new improvements to be a direct result of a some great management and the new brewer "Eric".

5.0 Atmosphere - Cool open air, high ceiling brewpuc feel. You can see the brew equipment and nice brewery theme. Warm wood atmospeher and a clean yet dark brew pub to disappear in for awhile.

4.0 Quality - The beer quality now seems consitent, with important attention to the craft and serving. Appropriatte gallses are used for seasonal offerings. The beer is much better than in past expereinces now that "Eric" is the brewer.

5.0 Service - Respectable servers & bartenders. Brian the GM rocks and is a model of customer service & hospitality!

4.5 Selection - Awesome for a Jax brew pub. As far as the house beer goes, usually 5-6 offerings, always something new or seasonal. This is the only brewpub in Jax that I know that serves cask offerings! 2 cask ales were available last time I went (7/2009). There is a wide variety of food in the 10-20 range. Some apps are around 10. I personally would order few apps to get a feel for what is best on my next visit. Or a burger seems like it may be a good choice, just not seafood.

3.0 food - The food is just "okay" in my opinion. Most items are satisfactory, but it seems seafood may not be the best option. The last mahi sandwich I got was somewhat fishy.

Seven Bridges is a great place to meet up with a bunch of friends to party down, relax, and enjoy a wonderful selection of food varities.

Atmosphere is relaxing with the beer tanks showing proudly, and plenty of space to breathe.

Quality is right on. You get what you pay for. I never leave without knowing that the quality was there.

Service may be the weak part because on one visit i recall feeling like the bigger parties were treated much more important than me and my girlfriend.

Great selection of micro-brews including an ipa i strongly recommend. The food is also a great pleasure to eat from burgers to steak and seafood.
Nicly priced for a brewery.

Food: great selection with a gourmet touch, not your average pub food.

I highly recommend this place for all vistors. It's a great place to eat and a good place to hang out and try a local selection of beer. I really thnk they need to work on some of their beers though. Food defenitly shines here. Beers are not horrible though.

I was in Jacksonville to judge beers at a homebrew competition, and I ended up judging a couple of flights with Eric, the brewer for Seven Bridges.

After the judging, my wife and I went to visit the brewpub, to check out their beer as well as to have dinner.

I had a "sampler" of beer - six 3-oz samples of each of the draft beers. The bartender kindly included samples of the two cask beers too. The sampler price was $4.68 - a great bargain for 24oz of beer!

In general, the beers were slightly above average, with the light lager, pilsner, Iron Horse Stout, and American Red standing out at the best made beers. It's tough to make a light lager that also has some flavor, but this one definitely had a malt signature to it.

The two beers on cask (Bad Ass Stout and dry hopped Sweet Magnolia Brown) were tasty, but not special.

Burger and Fries was decent, and the Grouper was quite delicious. Service (at the bar) was attentive but not oppressive, so - just right!

Overally, a nice and pleasant experience.

I visited the Seven Bridges while on Jacksonville for work. This place was pretty standard as far as brewpubs go. There was nothing particularly exciting or disappointing about it.

A: The Seven Bridges place feels more like a chain Hops, Ram's Head, or Gordon Biersch than the local hangout brewpub I hunt in my travels. The only reason I gave it a 3.5 is the fact that they have pool tables.

Q: I had three of their beers of varying styles so that I could get a good idea of their range.

1: The IPA: Huge disappointment. If you like hops, you should probably go to Publix and grab a 90 minute IPA.

2: The Special: A whiskey barrel aged brown ale. This was actually pretty tasty. It was served in a snifter and the bartender told me it contained about 6.7% abv. The whiskey flavor was pronounced, but not over powering. I would drink this again if they put it in regular rotation.

3. The Pilsner: I wish I'd gotten another IPA.

Service: The bartenders were attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the beers.

Selection: Seven Bridges covers the usual brewpub fare. IPA, Stout, Lager, Pilsner, Brown, Special. Nothing unexpected (except that tasty Special... and I don't usually like browns)

F: I got a pepperoni pizza. I'm not so adventurous when it comes to food. The pie was better than I expected and about $10. Not bad for a 12" pizza in a brewpub.

V: I showed up during happy hour. After three beers and a $10 pizza, and I got out just about $20 (without tip). I've been in far more expensive places and had far less fun.

Yes, yes and finally yes! One of my favorite brewpub in USA! I go to this brewpub each year (month of november) and each time I enjoy it! The food is very good, the place is "cute" the atmosphere is also quiet and music not too much noisy!

The beers are average but do the job very well! Why don't you eat a good pizza with an IPA??!!! They also have fine appetizers! This place is little far from the 95, but the detour worth. In Jacksonville, some places close early but this one I think close at 03:00!

A little bit corporate in appearance, lots of air volume and shiny things, but very pleasant and comfortable nonetheless.

I have been just a few times so far, but I look forward to returning many times. The food has been very good, although on the pricey side. Service is clearly quite variable. Some employees know seem to know their stuff whereas others would probably be shocked to know beer is brewed on the premises. You have to cross your fingers and hope you get someone who at least knows how to dispense a glass without causing every last bubble of co2 to pile into a five-inch head.

The beer is why you're here, hopefully. And the beer is good. Drinkable almost beyond credulity, at first I dismissed the various offerings as uniformly sweetish and mild. But they grow on you. And there are occassional variations, seasonal brews, cask editions, etc. Lately I've started thinking these alcoholic drinks could be habit-forming ....

Update 1/2014: The food quality fell off a cliff about a year ago. Seems like there was a regional change of management at all the GB brewpubs in the area about that time since they all went from having quite good food to something I'm no longer willing to pay for. Noticeably lower quality ingredients and seemingly phoned in preparation. Too bad. The beer is still well made if not as exciting as some of the newer places in town.

Fairly nice brewpub with somewhat more upscale menu than average. The food is usually quite good and they have seasonal specials that are worth considering as well. Atmosphere is nice they have live music occasionally, which actually kind of sucks because it draws in the meatheads from merrill lynch and it can get pretty crowded. I suggest eating at the bar as you can usually sit down immediately and get better service.

The year round house beers are pretty good, and they have a seasonal every few months. They got a new brewer a year or so ago, and things have improved since. They seem to have a lot more one off beers now in addition to their formal seasonals and they almost always have something on cask. The brewer's specials are kind of hit or miss, but they seem to be improving every time and I certainly give him an A for effort and I am glad to see so much variety.

My wife and I took my best man here when he was leaving town, which sounds strange since we were up visiting. But anyway.

The place is huge, with very high ceilings and a few TVs. It's a little too dark for my taste. There is also outside patio seating for those who smoke. We got there about 8:30 on a Friday night and it was very crowded, with a 45 minute wait. So we went to the nearby mall for about 30 minutes, came back, and went right to our table. Sweet!

The house beers on the menu didn't look too interesting, so I was going to ask for anything on cask. But our server beat me to it. My buddy and I ordered two cask ales.

I can't remember the name of the ale, but it was excellent. And I mean excellent. It was creamy and had a wonderful coriander flavor to it. My only criticism is that the glasses were fake British pints, probably about 12 ounces instead of the full size imperial pint that they were trying to pass themselves off as.

I ordered a salad, my wife had the tomato and basil pizza and my best man had the meatloaf. All food was good, with my wife's pizza being the best.

I would have had a second cask ale but I had to have their award-winning stout. It was quite good, but not as good as the cask.

Our server forgot to put our order in and was very sorry about it. I thought we might get some comps, but no. No biggie.

Not cheap, but not expensive. A fine brewpub if you're in JAX.

I would say this is the best place in Jax to pick up a local brew and some great food. The atmosphere is great - all the fermentation tanks are behind glass, and can be seen from just about anywhere in the restaurant. It's almost dark and cozy like.
The beers are great - I like the IPA and Porter; the wife likes the Pilsener. They always have a good seasonal on tap too. And even serve 1 cask conditioned beer at least on the weekends (maybe all the time now). The new brewmaster has done a phenomenal job - so get out there and support this fine establishment!

Ok, so this is my first beerfly review of a brewpub in town, and for me this is a little bittersweet. I'll come clean right off the bat: I lived in Oregon for the last year, and the beer bars and brewpubs there spoiled me entirely.

So I head out here in Jax to Seven Bridges. It's been a long week in the law school circuit. I've learned a lot, and I've probably forgotten a lot, so stopping here with my fiance is a nice diversion before my weekend begins. We walk in and the first thought that comes to mind is that this is a nice place, but cookie-cutter and plain in a way. Nice Applebees comes to mind when considering the woodwork and high amount of brickwork inside. The good sized horsehoe bar seperates the dining room, which is 2/3 of the floor space of the establishment, from the three pool tables. It's a very clean place, and we took seats at the bar. The beer selection was fairly mundane: a "light lager," a pilsner, a brown ale, a Toll House IPA, and a stout were the year round selections. The two seasonal or special brews were a honey ale and a red ale.

The service was kind enough and not overly attentive to be annoying, but also boardering on cold. I asked some specific questions, but the bartender asnwered but came across as though he would prefer to not be bothered. They had 2 hand pumps that were not operational, but the bartender blamed the hand pumps on a head brewer who was out helping his wife since she just recently gave birth.

The menu seemed varried enough to warrant a few returns, but we only sampled an order of the jalapeno cheese dip, which disapointingly lacked spiciness. The IPA was more in the English style, with a light, some APA's appear to be hoppier, and only fuggle hopped beer.

Overall, a decent atmosphere for the majority, but overall there are better brewpubs out there. I just need to learn if they exist in town here.

Just wanted to update my review on Seven Bridges Southside Jacksonville FL. Now that new head Brewer Eric Luman has taken the reigns, heading to down Seven Bridges has become much more enjoyable. He has a great understanding of brewing (having attended the Sibel Institute), but is always willing to sit down and talk shop or give you a tour of where he crafts the beers. He has also brought the cask ales back online, and what a treat they are. Over the last few months he has had Vanilla porters, toasted coconut stout, Expresso Stout, a few diffrent IPA's just to name a few. Also keep a eye out for a ESB he's working on at the moment. He also topped off his first season of brewing at Seven Bridges with a new years eve Barley Wine toast at midnight. The food still leaves something to be desired and really needs a update. But if they get that fixed this brewpub will be well on its way to being a top notch place to have a great pint.

The service is usually good and efficient. The food is pretty good, but the menu is somewhat limited--after a couple of visits you sort of run out of anything new to order.

They offer a pretty standard brew pub beer selection. None of their regular beers are bad. This place is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, but I'm not sure it warrants a special trip.

3rd try at this local place

Was told they had a new brew Mister so we went back. WE tried and liked the cask coffee stout, was quite good but again I think they are a tad weak for the style. IPA was weak but in the style so I could not really fault it, but IPA are not my favorite style so I only had 1. Tried the southside lager that was totally undrinkable, was like a bud YUCK! The reg stout was good. WE ate at the bar so service was MUCH better this time as was the food. WE stuck with splitting 3 dishes, nachos, a Cobb salad and crab cakes, only the crab cakes sucked. Still think its a tad pricey but for the southside area its not out of line IF you work at Merrill lynch!. Nice pool tables, and seats at bar are good, not a bad place. Its not a cozy and friendly bar though, just a food place that brews ok beer.

its sad I know Eric can brew better but is limited by the corporate GB recipes.
Nice place to meet folks for a meeting, but its a tad loud in there.
ah Eric is a greenroom now.

Still cannot rate them any higher due to the lack of beer selection.

Hit this place in early afternoon and was able to sit right down on the covered patio, by a trickling fountain. A light breeze and solid beers helped drown the stress' of driving the Florida back roads.

The interior here is standard brewpub. Setting it apart is the view of the brewing equipment. most of it is viewable in windows high above the restaurant seating area. The cooler/serving tanks are on the ground floor, near the restrooms.

The beers were pretty good, though not inspired. After the sampler, I opted for the Pils, which is unusual for me, but the breeze of the afternoon called for it. Plus it was an award-winner, and tasty.

Service was decent and overall this looked like a good place to grab a pint.

I visit Seven Bridges fairly often. They have great beers on tap, nice scenery and good food. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a local guy Chuck Nash that plays on Friday nights. He's good, you should all check him out while enjoying a good beer. Great for a hang out spot, enjoy some beer, food and entertainment. I could rank this place even higher. Basically, if you are in Jacksonville, make your way to the Southside area and check out Seven Bridges, its definitely worth your time...
