Mill St Fruit Beer is made from a blend of raspberries and a pale beer. This allows the wonderful flavour of the cherries to dominate the taste and aroma with the beer underpinning the natural sweetness of the fruit. The red colour comes entirely from the fruit.

Draft at the Mill Street Pub Ottawa

Appearance - Clear purple/red/brown colour with a small size fizzy off-white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for only a minute or two.

Smell - Malts, raspberry jam, breads/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste raspberry jam mixed with some malts and a sugary sweetness. There really isn't a whole lot of taste going on. It ends with a slightly sweet yet tart aftertaste.

Overall - Really nothing exciting going on here. I expected a little more tartness and bold flavours. It's more of a beer that will appeal to their female patrons sitting on their patio in the hot sun. Nothing worth seeking out for the beer geeks.

Half pint at Mill Street Ottawa. From notes.

A - Poured dark copper with a hint of red. Half finger of white head. Bright. No visible carbonation, no lace and a ring of retention.

S - Raspberries, very sweet sugars, and jam.

T - Very sweet. Raspberries. Light wheaty malt.

M - Good carbonation, light body. Sweet finish.

O/D - Probably too sweet for me. Lot's of raspberry flavour and a light, but overly sweet while being fairly one dimensional. If they had chosen to go a little more in the tart direction, this might be a bit better. Not all that bad, just not my thing.

Growler procured by Jason, served in a tulip. Growler labelled at 5.5%ABV.

Poured a reddish orange, lightly hazy with a nice cream head that doesn't hang around for too long. OK lace and retention. Sweet raspberries in the nose, light medicinal character and a 'seediness' that I tend to get from raspberries themselves. Taste is kind of similar, again a dry, seedy and raspberry laden body presents itself. Fairly watery in feel with a light bitterness that feels out of place in the finish. Drying and only mildly sweet. Not too attractive in most aspects and certainly far from the best raspberry beer I've encountered.

Clear golden colour with no real head. Disappointing.

Very light raspberry jam aroma with some mild sweet malt. Interesting but yet dull.

A slightly tart, very light ale with a hint of raspberry flavour. Just a bit thin and uninteresting.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Okay.

A decent but completely uninspiring beer. This lacks raspberry flavour and really any flavour at all. Dull.

This beer, served in a solid big-ass wine glass, appears a clear dark reddish brown colour, with one finger of creamy light beige head, which leaves a collared trail of lace around the glass as it recedes. It smells strongly of baked raspberries, and bit of crusty, bready white grain. The taste is sweet framboises veritables, a bit of caramel malt, and fragrant green hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body on the light side of medium weight, fruity and fairly smooth, and it finishes off-dry, the raspberry and mildly sweet malt balanced throughout.

I like raspberries. I like good beer. I like good raspberry beer. I like this beer. Especially for a late-night dessert replacement.
