Single bottle from Mill St. fall sampler pack poured into an English pub glass. A deep red copper color with a light smattering of white creamy head. Aroma is indeed rich with pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla) and undercurrents of corn flake and cacao powder. Palate is less sweet than the aroma, at least initially, but a condensed milk-like sweetness does develop over time. Some butterscotch, ginger, sarsaparilla, and brown bread full of raisins along with an earthy tea-like bitterness dominate the proceedings. Moderate body, maybe just approaching thick, moderate carbonation with an interestingly fruity finish, some pear and apple notes popping out. Dry and spicy rather than thick and sweet, pretty good showing all around.

Got this from their autumn seasonal six-pack, with three 12 oz. bottles of nightmare, and three others of an octoberfest. Both were darn enjoyable beers I'd say.

Appearance - a nice deeper golden/orange colour, with about two fingers of foamy white head, the head dissipated quickly, but it still looked pretty darn good.

Smell - some vanilla, and assorted pumpkin pie spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, and oddly enough I got some hot cocoa notes in it. Strange for a beer in this style, but there it was, and I liked it.

Taste - starts off with some maltiness, but goes right into the pumpkin pie spices and that hot cocoa flavour again. I liked it, but I couldn't find any hint of vanilla, that was mentioned on the label, no big deal though - it was still fairly enjoyable.

Mouthfeel - The body was relatively light, pumpkin beers seem to be on the light side in my experience - given that pumpkin is used as an adjunct, maybe it contributes a high amount of fermentable sugars? I'm not too sure. That said, it also had a decently pleasant level of carbonation, well balanced.

Overall - I'd say it's a damn good beer for a number of people - if you know a white girl with an affinity for yoga pants she might just like the fact that it tastes like pumpkin pie, if you know a guy who wants to get into craft beer but doesn't want anything too bitter this might be ideal, it's also quite sessionable but not so light on flavour as to be boring. I'd say it's good for what it is - Fancy enough for those that want something different, but approachable enough for those that may not want to stray too far, this beer has found its niche.

Have to say that a mixed 6 pack of Octoberfest and Pumpkin Beer is a great way to start off October. The Pumpkin is on the money as it matches up the spice and pumpkin notes with a solid wheat beer. The balance is the key to this brew as I never felt too many spices or too much sweetness at any time. Among the better pumpkin beers available in BC.
