Appearance: It has a nice hazy copper/amber color to it. It has a nice beige head that dies down moderately fast and leaves little lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of caramel, light maple syrup, buiscuity/roasty malts and some nuttiness.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a some sweet caramel, faint maple, buiscuity malts, a nice nuttiness and perhaps some toffee.

Mouthfeel: It has a low-medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by decent flavors and aromas. I was hoping for more Maple considering Maple is in the name of the beer but it is what it is.

I acquired this one in a mixed pack along with Spring Imp bock. Poured from the bottle into an English pint glass. This scottish ale is a reddish cola brown color, like strong tea, with a decent-sized light tan head. Aroma is predominately dark caramel, plums, and a slight hint of maple fudge. There is also a pleasant mellow campfire smokiness from the rather cool addition of some smoked barley malt. Palate is of course malty and sweet, with toffee, apple, a fruity maltiness like raisin butter tart, and molasses kiss flavors notable (remember those hard-ass Halloween candies in the orange and yellow wrappers that you couldn't give away? I actually like them). The maple syrup is detectable but downplayed, which is nice and stands in stark contrast to another Mill St. flavored beer that positively reeks of vanilla. Thin to moderate body and a dry mellow bitter finish with rounded corners and a ghost of earthy hops along with some singed grain. A solid offering from Mill St., with the sweet and smoke flavors working very well in tandem. Perhaps I'd dial back the sweetness a little and rachet up the smoke just a notch or two.

355ml bottle poured into tulip 9/6/13

A glowing reddish amber when held to the light, a few bubbles floating up to a thumbs width of foam that doesn't last long but leaves lots of lace

S smoke I wasn't expecting, perhaps I should read the label first, earthy hops and wood, caramels, a little coco, and a hint of maple

T slightly more smoke but its still mellow and works with the earthy notes and faint maple, not at all what I was expecting but quite happy with what I got

M light bodied but creams up slightly, a little slick on the cheeks and a lingering smokey caramel finish

O I was pleasantly surprised by this one and I like pleasant surprises, one of the better beers I've had from Mill Street, the smoked malt works well with the sweetness and earthy tones

something I'd drink again but I doubt I'd buy the mixed 6er just for one of these, worth a try for sure you may be pleasantly surprised too
