Notes/Commercial Description:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac's Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

This is a very solid coffee porter. The coffee flavour is not overpowering and melds together nicely with the chocolate notes. Overall, this is a porter that tastes like beer first. The final product has a rich mouthfeel and a very pleasant after taste. This brew has definite potential as a breakfast beer.

Had a bottle poured into a shaker pint glass at The Libertine in downtown Calgary. A brownish black near-opaque brew with rather minimal tan head and a very roasted aroma, largely fresh ground coffee and roasted barley with a slight hoppy tang. Very smooth on the mouth, with a refined roastiness and little astringency. Not what I was expected based on the aroma. The coffee is discernible but not all encompassing and this still tastes like a legit porter: Caffe latte with some nutty malts, red berry and watermelon fruity notes, a whisper of lemon rind. I think Cascade hops are detectable in the fairly dry finish. Semi-chewy chalky body with moderate carbonation. From the perspective of a guy who likes his beer to taste like beer, this is quite good and much preferred to this brewery's vanilla porter (see that review), in which the special ingredient carries too much of the weight.
