Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac's Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

A big thanks to Grub for an awesome trade back in the day and for attaching a couple of these as extras in my package.

Poured into a snifter,

A A very dark brown body with a caramel colored 1 finger head. The head is very carbonated and dissolves rather quickly. Some visibility arises along the edges of the glass. It looks good for a porter.

S Awesome whiff of freshly brewed coffee and oats. You sure this is a porter? Smells more like an oatmeal stout to me. Bits of chocolate are also pleasing on the nose, as this is very simple but rather enjoyable. Burnt roasts add to this smooth and creamy mixture of scents. I can't wait to tongue dive into this one.

T Way too light. Burnt malts are definitely present. Matched with the light bitter coffee tastes, The oats that are present in the smell seem to have disappeared. The thinness is whats driving me crazy on this beer, as well as the lack of complexity. Some slight bites of chocolate shows up as it warms, but all in all I was a little bit disapointed with this one.

Pours a deep black body with half a finger of beige head that dissipates into a lacing film. Aromas of strong coffee are coupled with dark chocolate on a fairly intense nose, which also shows off some very faint dark fruit. On the palate, the beer is quite velvety in texture, with a slightly smoky coffee flavor with that same dark chocolate tone weaving in and out, fading into a finish of dark roast coffee and an almost ashy smoke flavor. It has a very filling mouthfeel without going overboard with alcohol or intensity, with a carbonation that is maybe just a tad too much for me. Overall this is quite a good beer, I think I would buy it if it came in single packs in my neck of the woods.

341 ml bottle picked up out of the singles bin at the LCBO. About $2.25 CDN for the bottle. Served at cellar temperature into a pint glass.

Appearance - dark cola brown coloured beer is poured with a half finger of sticky but quickly receding white head. Opaque and thick looking, with minimal if any lacing left around the edge of the glass.

Smell - plenty of coffee but also a sweet caramel notion and some vanilla. More like a latte then full blown espresso.

Taste - similar to the nose, at first with traces of caramel and vanilla cutting through the coffee base. Finishes with some acidity and with coffee grounds in mind, closer to the espresso bean rather than the latte.

Mouthfeel - smooth and creamy with a tingly sensation left on the tongue. A bit chewy but not too thick. Good feel for a beer of this style.

Overall - I can't say that Mill Street Coffee Porter exceeded my expectations, but it didn't fall short either, delivering a unique coffee flavor that leans a little closer to the dark roast and pungent coffees of Europe rather than a muddled latte. Worth a shot.
