Notes/Commercial Description:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac's Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

Pours a near-black with auburn highlights at the edges of the glass. Good looking coffee-coloured head disappears quickly, leaving little lacing in its wake.

Surprisingly limited, a mild aroma of roasted dark malts with a hint of smokiness and roasted coffee beans. However the taste is impressive, with the full roasted spectrum of chocolate and dark malts plus brewed coffee flavours. Finishes with a nice bitterness, that lingers for longer than I expected.

Not a beer that I see often on tap, but probably one I should pick up at the LCBO more often.

Had a bottle poured into a shaker pint glass at The Libertine in downtown Calgary. A brownish black near-opaque brew with rather minimal tan head and a very roasted aroma, largely fresh ground coffee and roasted barley with a slight hoppy tang. Very smooth on the mouth, with a refined roastiness and little astringency. Not what I was expected based on the aroma. The coffee is discernible but not all encompassing and this still tastes like a legit porter: Caffe latte with some nutty malts, red berry and watermelon fruity notes, a whisper of lemon rind. I think Cascade hops are detectable in the fairly dry finish. Semi-chewy chalky body with moderate carbonation. From the perspective of a guy who likes his beer to taste like beer, this is quite good and much preferred to this brewery's vanilla porter (see that review), in which the special ingredient carries too much of the weight.

A - black and opaque, 1/4 finger of tan big bubbled head which dissipates pretty fast leaving a good lace

S - medium intensity aromas of coffee and caramel, slightly earthy

T - roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors start and dominate, sweet toffee, toasted into a sweet and slightly bitter end

M - medium-full bodied, lively carbonation, fairly thick but smooth, it has a refreshing and warm finish

O - The nose was a bit weak on this one but overall this is an easy to drink porter with some solid flavors. This was enjoyable.

Poured from a 341mL bottle into a conical pint glass.

Very dark, as expected from a porter. About a 1-finger head.

Smell is predominantly coffee, as advertised, with some sweet aroma. Taste follows nose with strong coffee flavour, transitioning to a nice bitterness from the beer. Neither smell nor taste are particularly complex, though. Fairly significant carbonation felt.

Overall, a nice but simple beer that I'd be happy to drink again in the future.
