Stopped off this week to see about tome White Labs yeast. Located in a strip mall the interior is very nice and the customer service was very good. However, the sticker shock was off the hook! $8.99 for a vial of White Labs yeast? OMG-right then I was put off on this place. They have used Corny kegs and I may call to find out their price but I am pretty sure they will be over priced too. They have a good basc selection of grains, all of which are vacumm packed by the pound.
I will check their keg prices but I will pass onthis place on buy online.

This is a small homebrew shop in Campbell. It's kind of hidden in a non-rescript strip mall. Since it's very near by house I will stop in here if I need something basic and quick and easy. It's clean and has a small amount of stock and supplies. They have a decent selection of supplies but not a big selection of ingredients such as grains or hops. Friendly and helpful staff that always makes sure you have all the supplies that you need to do the job. Not a bad option but I would recommend going to MoreBeer in Los Altos if you can.

This is a nice clean shop. I bought my starting equipment here, and a few other supplies. They have a good quality selection of equipment for home brewing but not large selection of supplies (malts, gains, ECT). They do carry some cans, which are in good shape and quality compared to other brew stores in the area. They have some kits which look good but I have not tried yet. They seem focus more on wine making than beer making. I have not had a problem with the service, the seem willing to help or to at least guide you where to find help.

They have quality products, however, there aren't that many of them. It seems more geared towards wine-makers. They have the essential items for brewing but you would be hard-pressed to find the malts for your own designed homebrew. They also have the minimal selection of yeasts. The service is okay because most of the time you will be the only one in the store. They tend to be reserved in the advise they give out and tell you to refer to your recipe. They do not seem that excited about the beer you are trying to make, and therefore, it tends to be a bit of a downer. That being said, if you are running short on essentials or don't feel like waiting for equipment, it is a great place to stop off if you're in the area.

When Fermentation Frenzy ran out of bottling sugar, I went over to Fermentation Settlement. They have a nice clean store with beer and soda making equipment. They have a few beer kits, which I have not tried. The owners were not very helpful in terms of advice on yeast and brewing in San Jose heat. They did have sugar though. I believe they grow their own yeast and sell it in liquid form in those blue fat testtubes you might find in a biology lab. They do not have the same selection of yeasts as White Labs. I used the American ale yeast, I think, in my 2nd oatmeal stout. The stout turned out badly, which may or may not have been due to the yeast. I would not try their yeast again, just because White Labs is such a standard, and I don't want to take a chance on the few beers I brew each year.
