A good, clean nut brown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor.
We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings Variation as well.
The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank.

- from the notes and a sampler pack
12 ounce bottles
A - a fairly nice foamy and lacy head over a dark brown clear ale.
S - sweet malt is all I get.
T - mild coffee bitterness with a backing of sweet malts.
M - feels a little thin and sticky.
D - it's OK but doesn't stun me.
I wouldn't avoid it, but I wouldn't worry if you don't get any.

Roasty and stout-like yet incredibly crisp and clean initial impressions. Hops very subdued. Then caramel (and maybe something approximating notes of vanilla?) and biscuity malts creep in. Sessionable and tasty, what's with the low rating? If this was some generic NEIPA it would be at like 95%.

From a tall boy, pours a dark reddish brown with minimal head. Nose is nutty and bready malt…nice. Taste follows nose…there’s a little earthy chocolate, and maybe just a little caramel, but not much. A nice fall beer…maybe just a little English style hops in there. Low carbonation. Maybe a little bit thin and watery on the body, but I bet this would be great on cask.

Can: Poured a deep brown ale with a medium -off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of deep caramelized malt notes with light nitty notes. Taste is also dominated by deep caramel notes with some nutty flavors and a semi-dry finish. Body is about average with medium carbonation. Good brown ale that paired well with ribs.

Coming into this beer, I have to say that I didn’t expect too much because of the low rating. I mean, this dang sucker is like Nixon post Deep Throat low. That being said, after a sniff and a sip, it wasn’t that bad. On the nose was light cocoa, and I’ll say the same about the taste. It’s light, but it’s not repulsive like Tara Reid’s career post “The Big Lebowski.” The beer is just kind of “there,” and “average” like a subway sandwich when it was only 5 bucks.
Yep!

I tried this at the restaurant location in downtown Bar Harbor whilst there on vacation. The beer poured a clear rich mahogany with thin white head that left some lace. The scent had faint hints of dark fruit and bread. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with subtle sweet malt to start then a yeast finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.
