"Hand crafted in small batches." A pretty good summer brew. It's an orange color with a medium head. It has a floral aroma, with a degree of grain aroma. It was sweet, a little citrus, a little hops. Average mouthfeel, but good to drink. A nice brew on a hot summer day.

Appearance: minimal head, gold in color, clear, low carbonation

Smell: straw, earthiness, and toasted malt

Taste: straw, earthiness, and toasted malt

Mouthfeel: medium-low carbonation, light bodied, sweet with earthiness

Overall: An above average sessionable beer. I have had better and worse in the style. I might have this again.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly hazy golden amber in color. Three fingers of a beautiful off-white head that lasted several minutes, good carbonation. Spotty lacing left on the glass.

Smell: Musky...Almost like the smell of an old book. I can smell some hops, but that musky smell was overwhelming.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Medium bodied, but for the amount of head and carbonation I saw, this beer felt flat. Taste was ok, toasted malts and a bread like flavor.

Overall: There is far better summer ales out there, disappointed with this one as I have become a big fan of the Atlantic Brewing Company.

12oz bottle to pokal. Best before December 12th notched on the label. Sampled 8/12/11.

A: Pours with a foamy/fluffy head, 1 1/2 fingers high, pure white in color. Respectable retention but no film or collar. The body is crystal clear and a light straw yellow in color. No lacing.

S & T: Grain, cereal, flowers and grass. Very light fruit (estery) inclusion. Hard to discern general beer flavor and aroma. Nothing bad or offensive, just nearly missing altogether.

M: Light body with a fizzy carbonation that helps to increase the thickness in the mouthfeel.

O: I've got plenty of go-to "summer" ales. No need to revisit this one.

I can't believe this beer has so few reviews. I made to grab one on my vacation to Maine last month.

APPEARANCE: Pours a crystal clear, vibrant gold color into a Sam Adams glass. A small white head forms initially, but it quickly drops to a medium collar with some glass-aided bubbles in the center.

SMELL: The clean, pale malt base shines through unabated in this beer. Over top is a light and unobtrusive hop aroma that's made up predominantly of spicy and pungent European hops. Yeast esters are present in moderate quantities.

TASTE: Clean and crisp and mostly malty up front despite a considerable dryness. A little hop bitterness and flavor comes through, but not a whole lot. The finish shows off some of the yeast esters before it ends cleanly.

MOUTHFEEL: Quite dry though a minor slickness is present. Carbonation is toward the lower end of the spectrum but still appropriate, particularly if this is brewed as an English-style beer.

DRINKABILITY: Not bad. It's certainly a refreshing beer, but I can't help but think this is a beer to sway over the BMC crowd.

Pretty nice if you like the style and are a fan of English-style beers. For me, I'll probably reach for something else in the summer.

Pours a nice golden color with a smell that isn't too sweet, slight floral and citrus smell.

Taste is decent, not a sweet summer ale like most, isn't too heavy on citrus either. Tends to have too much carbonation. Better summer ales are out there and this is one of the bigger disappointments coming from Atlantic Brewing.

Presentation: 12oz bottle (best by of 11/07) in a Shaker pint glass

Opened with a strong *PSST*, poured like champagne - very agitated, pearlesque, full of life, carbonation & sizzle. Its like having a Rice Krispies-esque flashback, beer style..."Snap, Crackle & Hops"!

Clean, crisp nose, slight lemon rind, semi-sweet, straw-like malts, faint mineral/rockiness to it. The head, as a result of the intense carbonation, is insane - even with a slow, calculated angled pour easily 3 fingers of tight, sculpted soft peak meringue foam, a lightly ivory, winter white in hue. It steadily recedes to a pinky's worth of the same and rather audibly, I might add. Its not often the auditory sense gets called into play when reviewing!

The body is slightly hazed, a clover honey gold in hue with a steady parade of lazy, serpentine bubbles snaking slowly thru it. With the voluminous head (which ironically only laces in very isolated splotches) it is a sharp looking beer.

Mmm.. there are some subtle Witbier & Hefe Weizen aspects to this that, due to their being absent from the nose, were quite unexpected but very nice. I definitely detect faint echoes of Hefe-esque banana and Wit coriander (and even a hint of white pepper bite) which make for a very pleasing initial tonguefeel. Semi-sweet with a dull crunch, its nicely light yet very tasty. Its going down damn easy & quick.

It grows sweeter but no where near sugary (think corn on the cob sweet) on the palate, a little thicker, the malts becoming more noticeable, finishing downhill with a subdued descent into a very even, balanced and uneventful adieu, which is a bit disappointing. The aftertaste is clean, semi-sweet with a faint banana quality.

This was quite a surprise and very enjoyable. The combination of, to me, some aspects of 2 characteristics of classic Weiss biers was very nice and made for a most enjoyable (and as a result very refreshing) beer experience. This would be dead on with a good aged cheddar, about anything that could be grilled, lobster (great aspect for a Maine beer!), etc. One of the best summer beers I've had & highly recommended.

Pours a three finger white head that quickly goes to a ring leaving some lace. Clear orange/amber color. Faint malt nose. Light-medium carbonation and light bodied. Flavor is light sweet citrus, a little watery. I'm ready for some beers with a backbone. $2.00 for a 12 oz bottle from Tullys Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a hazy, orange-gold coloring with a filmy, white head. The head quickly settles into a sparse surface coating. Nose of light toffee and biscuit, with citrus highlights. Flavors of citrus blend on a subtle bready backbone. Peppery and resiny hops characters at the end of the profile. Spice and bitter aftertaste, with a clean, slick finish. Very easy to drink.

Into a pint glass:

A: golden brown colored body with a one finger small white head that died within five seconds, no lacing was seen. Carbonation was seen slowly rising in columns.

S: some grains at the center with floral grassy notes slightly in the background.

T: balanced between the floral grassy notes and the grains. Some corn comes out, but nothing offensive. It also slightly sweetens a bit as the beer warms.

M: light with some carbonation making itself known, yet it wasn't overbearing. It was pretty drinkable, but the ABV is unknown, so not sure what to say other than sessionable by mouthfeel.

O: not a bad summer beer. I think I would have this again, but probably wouldn't necessarily seek it out to "need" for the summer. This might be nice to have grillin'.

Atlantic Brewing Co.
Bar Harbor Summer Ale

LOOK: Pours a dark golden color, with a perfect clarity. The white loosely bubbled head formed briefly before departing forever.

SMELL: Grainy aroma of malt, crackery yeast, possible some adjuncts and perhaps wheat. Light citrus notes are apparent as well.

TASTE: Like the smell, grainy, faint pils malt, cooked corn, rice, wheat etc. Hops provide acidity and a small peppery spice, quite possibly including some coriander.

FEEL: Thin, light bodied, loose carbonation. Makes for an easy to drink, readily accessible summer option, which was definitely the brewers intent.

OVERALL: Refreshing for sure. Not earth shattering, and the flavors and aroma aren't great. A like able beer, just very plain and attenuated.
