Leaf Peeper Red Ale is a 5% ABV, English style red ale that uses German noble hops (Saaz) to create a smooth session beer with a mild sweetness on the finish. In addition to the pale and Caramunich malts, we put in 10% crystal malt to achieve a ruby red color that is reminiscent of Maine fall foliage.

Had on tap at Mainely Meat at the brewery

Appearance: moderate carbonation, minimal head, clear, copper in color

Smell: caramel and toasted malt

Taste: caramel and toasted malt, and pale malt

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, moderate carbonation, sweet

Overall: An OK English pale ale. Not knowing the style at the time, I would have guessed marzen. Not bad, but not overly distinguishable either.

Pours a decent fluffy foamy 1/2 finger head that fades at a med pace, decent lacing notes, mostly clear cranberry red color.

NOse big crystal malts, toasty reddish malts, caramel, candy, plenty of red toasty malts, little sweet smelling, with herbal spicy hops as well.

Taste brings herbal earthy hops, a little vegetal herbal hop character, mild to fair bitterness, very U.K. style herbal hops. Then sweet malts, candy caramel, little biscuity, toasty reddish malts, sweet and a little syrupy. Pretty simple. Finish drier, lingering herbal earthy vegetal hops, more crystal malts, caramel biscuit lingering too.

Mouth is med bod, mild syrupy like, lots of small bubble carbonation.

Overall eh, OK but not really my style, lots of herbal earthy U.K. hops, blended with big crystal malts, so basically delivers what it wanted to, but not really my style of beer, also very simple and a bit boring.

I am sitting here at Mainly Meat BarBCue (nicely joined at the hip with the brewery) scarfing down this very pleasant seasonal draft. I live in the area and have not had this before. Certainly worth drinking and I would buy again in a bottle form. Some lacing, nice smell, wicked good look, and it feels good going down

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Dark red with a thin beige head. No lacing on the glass.

Smell: Heavy malts and some hops.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Heavy malt flavors with some hops and pine notes. Barely maybe too.

Overall: Not a bad beer. Glad I tried it.
