With the recent explosion of over-the-top hopped IPAs, we wanted to return to an India Pale Ale that was well-hopped, but still balanced and smooth. Our brewers wanted to name it after one of our hardworking staffers, so we decided to name it after Dave—the new guy. This beer is made with one hundred percent Columbus hops and only one malt, yielding a nice earthy tone and spicy flavors. Columbus hops have a citrusy profile, which is more subtle than that found in most IPAs.

Pours an amber color with off white lacing. Immediate taste is bitter with prominent piney notes. Thin on the palate relative to other IPAs. Finishes much the same way it started. It reminds me of an IPA I made recently, and I'm a terrible brewer. Skip it.

Looks like an IPA.
Hazy orange color. Nice thick head.
Mild but sweet and fruity smell.
The beer is not balanced.
It does have some malt sweetness but it is overwhelmed by the earthy hops.
It has a bitter finish and a sour after taste.
This beer is just too harsh for my liking.

12 oz. bottle poured into shaker pint glass. Good head retention. Partly cloudy. Piney and citrusy nose, not especially distinguished. Very citrusy and bitter on the palate. I was expecting more "balanced and smooth" as advertised. The malt is overly subdued. A fine palate cleanser, however, and nice accompaniment to curry dishes. Nice carbonation and good mouthfeel.

Reminds me of a west coast style IPA....hoppy with a hint of citrus.

Smell was outstanding, but the beer has a musty taste. Better than average, but not quite good.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a pretty solid orange color. I got a huge blast of foam out of this one - I think the bottle may have been shaken. Some pretty good lacing on the way down.

Aroma: Smells of apricot, citrus, pine, hops, and lemon.

Taste: Taste follows the nose. There's also a touch of booze. Slightly more harsh than I had guessed.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: Pretty decent IPA with a traditional American IPA profile. I like that it's made with only one hop variety and one malt - it's very complex for having such a simple base. Not my favorite Atlantic beer - they make some really good ones, to be sure - but a solid IPA.
