With the recent explosion of over-the-top hopped IPAs, we wanted to return to an India Pale Ale that was well-hopped, but still balanced and smooth. Our brewers wanted to name it after one of our hardworking staffers, so we decided to name it after Dave—the new guy. This beer is made with one hundred percent Columbus hops and only one malt, yielding a nice earthy tone and spicy flavors. Columbus hops have a citrusy profile, which is more subtle than that found in most IPAs.

Can: Poured a yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy and bitter hops notes are dominating. Taste is a mix of citrus hops notes with some bitter hops notes and some dry malt. Body is average with good carbonation. Middle of the road old school IPA.

From the bottle it pours a clear amber color with visible carbonation. A well retaining thumbnail length head yields lacing.

Classic IPA aromas of bright citrusy notes of grapefruit and candied oranges. Herbal aromas of pine and grass and earthy bitterness. For the malt aroma I detect notes of cracker, however, I also detect a spiciness that perhaps suggests rye.

As with the aroma, the flavors are rife with classic IPA qualities. A neutral cracker malt backbone, as well as a touch of caramel, is balanced by an assertive resiny bitterness. Notes of grapefruit rind, orange pith, peach, sharp pine and grassy spices. The finish is dry, crisp, resiny and bitter. Medium bodied and moderately carbonated.

Tasted like a West Coast IPA all the way. Grapefruit, pine and bitterness; totally worked for me. Not sure why it’s rated low.

Taste is second wave bright bitter herbal hop note.

I'm trying a bottle of this beer that I bought back from vacation whilst in Bangor/Bar Harbor. It poured a hazy orangish with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had bitter hop notes. The taste was bitter leaning through the drink with pine finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

The appearance is a golden brown body gave a small white head appeared for less than twenty seconds. It showed little carbonation. Barely any lacing was shown. The smell was based around the hops with some slight citrus notes. A bit of pine was combined with the malts. The taste has some citrus in front of the hops with the pine notes taking more of a background. The palate is basically a medium with a smooth yet tingly sort of feel. Overall, this was a pretty good beer. I would have it again.
