4.14/5  rDev +4.3%
look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Pours a smaller fizzy bubbled 1/4 finger head, just a touch of lacing left, very dark almost pitch black color but the faintest hint of light sneaking through the small edges.

Nose starts with a nice fresh coffee, mostly freshly roasted and ground beans, with a bit of dark stout aromas not really roasty but a nice dark slightly chocolate stout aroma, dry and a hint of creamy, then that all gives way to a nice smooth vanilla aroma, dark cocoa and vanilla like, lots of vanilla eventually, a little caramel with the hint of cocoa, fresh brewed coffee comes back again in a last effort late.

Taste brings more of the same but this time all at once, a big vanilla right off, creamy rich vanilla, almost velvety, with a creamy lactose and dry like stout character, powdered cocoa with a dry cocoa flavor, and dark malts but not really a roast or black malt. Little caramel in there too, nice vanilla caramel but without much sweetness it doesn't get too candy like. Coffee is a bit more subdued but in there nicely, a little freshly roasted coffee bean with fresh grinds and a bit of steeped coffee, but that's more background to the big vanilla and creaminess. A little bitterness thanks to a hint of hop character and more from the dark malts. Finish is dry-ish, but creamy and sticks to the mouth, little more caramel and cocoa, bit of earthy coffee, a bit of bitterness too, and a long velvety vanilla lingering.

Mouth is med bod, nice and creamy though with a little velvety feel, nice carb too.

Overall pretty nice, coffee is more nose and wish it had a bit more presence in the flavor but it's still nice, a lot of nice vanilla, good dark malts, a nice velvety feel, and overall creaminess. Well done, and these style beers are very easy to do wrong.

Poured into a goblet. Color was a nice dark mostly opaque brown with a thick light brown head. Initially poured a 3 finger head that took a very long time to go down, and had excellent side cling. Aroma was a slightly burnt coffee with a small hint of dark chocolate. Flavor was a vanilla sweet, with just a tad of coffee, seemed more like a mocha flavor. A slight hint of oily bitter that detracted some. Felt pretty good in the mouth, a tad bit thin but not bad. Overall a reasonable stout. Not quite as thick or sweet as I expect from a milk stout, otherwise it would have rated higher.

From the 650 ml bottle. Sampled on June 21, 2014.

The pour is deep black with a lingering beige tan head. Chunks of sediment.

The aroma has a coffee grinds and vanilla as the label promises with roasted dark malts mixing it up. Although there was something that felt a little soapy.

Medium body but also smooth and creamy.

The taste is like the aroma with a good roasted malt character at the start that is quickly overtaken by coffee and vanilla. Milky. Not a lot of bitterness at first but as I make my way through the bottle the bitterness tends to kick in.
