V-Proper Brick Over is located in downtown near the theatres and cultural area. It does not look too inviting from the outside, but when you walk in, it is bustling and you are greeted with smell of the huge the wood burning pizza oven. The interior space is dark and cozy, and reminds me a bit of an pub with lots of wood and beer. There is a large bar and a bank of tables that run half of the length of the restaurant, as well as some corner nook type tables in front and back. It was busy when I visited for dinner on a Thursday evening, but it slowly emptied as the hour neared 9 pm.

Q-Proper Brick has a craft focus and much of the beer is local, which is cool. I did not see anything that really jumped out and made me say, Wow!, but the list has good options from breweries like Troegs and Victory.

Ser-My food and beer arrived in a timely manner. Servers were friendly, but not that interested in really talking about the beers they were serving. Glassware was appropriate to the beer and my pour was done correctly.

Sel-Proper Brick had about 30 beers on on tap. Most of the beers were craft and the style spread was pretty good. The list was a little old-school, i.e., no NE IPAs and very few BA or sour beers, but there is good stuff to be found if you're not interested in chasing trends.

F-My salad was pretty good with fresh ingredients and an appropriate amount of dressing. The pizza was somewhat of a letdown though. Good crust, but too much cheese and oil made for a bit of a greasy mess.

O-I would not seek this place out, but I could see holing up in here before a show at one of the nearby theatres on a cold winter night and really enjoying it.

I was able to eat at the Proper during my last visit to Pittsburgh.

As you walk in there is a hostess station in front and then the pizza ovens off to your right. There is a small bar fronting the pizza ovens.

You then go up about 4 steps to the main level. The large bar is to your right and it has tables on three sides.

The interior is modern but not sterile. There is dark wood, some exposed brick and high ceilings.

The beer selection is on the wall behind the bar and in the menus. I counted 30 quality taps that represented a wide variety of styles. As expected, there is a nice bunch of PA beers in the mix.

Service was friendly but busy.

The food is of good quality. They have a nice options for appetizers, salads and entrees but they really shine with pizzas and pastas.

My hotel was close by. With this place, Sharp Edge and Ten Penny, there is no real reason to rove too far.

Stopped for dinner before theatre, got there early enough to be seated quickly. Great beer selection including locals. Great service! Had to have the bacon candy. Decent menu choices, something for everybody. All our meals were excellent, and served within average wait time even though the place was packed. Will definitely return.

Found this place while out in Pittsburgh for the Saints/Steelers game. Grabbed a spot at the bar around Happy Hour as it was packed. 4 Samplers for $9 is the way to go. Had a large selection of great local beers along with pleasant surprises like Expedition Stout. Carnivore pizza was a great appetizer before we went out to dinner.
