The first brand to bear the Moosehead name, Moosehead Pale Ale rolled off the line in 1933, just five short years after third-generation Oland, George Bauld, discovered the Moosehead name registration in the files at his newly acquired Saint John brewery.

More than 80 years of enjoyment has built this brew a loyal following. A true top-fermented ale with a medium body and floral aromatics, “Moose Red,” as it is affectionately known in the Maritimes, is the beer that built the brewery.

341ml Bottle from The Cave, Glasgow (£1):
Light & clear amber with a tiny, soapy lacing around the edges.

Sweet malts & a light toffee aroma with some corn and basic malts. The aroma is subtle and slightly metallic.

Sweet malts and grain with some corn & light fruits but not much else really. There is a slightly musky taste and some earthy hops.

Sweet with a medium body & a fairly thick taste with some stickiness to the beer. There is a light bitter finish and mild carbonation.

Not good. Sweet and quite sticky with not much going for it. The taste was a nice of basic malts and some sweetness but other than that there really wasn't anything going on.

Clear gold with a thick head, particularly for style. Faint cereal nose but clean. Light malt body, a little creaminess. Not bad at all.

341 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5%. Crystal clear pale yellow colour, large white head. Boring aroma, like an industrial pale lager: a little "dusty" malts, boiled vegetables and a weak hint of grassy hop. The flavour is much like a "premium" industrial lager, with some fruity and malty notes, and very modest hops in the finish. Not undrinkable, but pretty far from anything a decent brewery with some self respect would call a "pale ale".

This is a well balanced pale ale that is not too fizzy, and got enough flavour to not feel flat. Unique flavour and something very drinkable.

Medium-bodied, smooth drinking,
Light hoppy and bready flavor. Two finger head that quickly dissipates.
Enjoyable drinking, wouldn't drink more than a couple in a sitting.

I got a can of this from a beer store in Hamilton, ONT whilst there for my son's hockey tournament. The beer poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had faint floral hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with slight bitter finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Appearance:
Medium- dark gold, some tiny floaties, White sticky head with good retention.

Aroma:
Cheap beer smell, some limp malt, corn adjuncts, nail polish, some yeasty bread and sulfur.

Flavor:
Spaghetti noodles and old crackers. Hop bitterness is there to an extent. Acrid finish.

Mouthfeel:
Moderate CO2, somewhat chalky and astringent on the tongue. Watery texture and light bodied.

Overall:
Picked this up for a bargain-- $6.88 +tax at WinCo Foods in OKC--for a 15 -pack! Now I know why. It is nearly undrinkable. Maybe these were old?

Spectacular Pale Ale!

Great malt body and nice hops presence.
It doesn't get any better than this!
Nice golden ale.
No adjuncts added.
Single malt.

It is a true Canadian Pale Ale.
Very easy drinking!

Excellent!

Great beer, not a ale ale by today’s standards but a great beer nonetheless

A- Well this one pours a crystal clear, rich golden color, that starts to border on the coppery tones. The head starts out around 2.5 fingers thick and the eggshell colored foam retains reasonably well, becoming a spider web like structure that stickily clings to the inside of the beer glass, while retaining some thick froth in the process.....in other words, the lacing is very decent! There are several columns of carbonation rising to the top in reasonably fast pace, making this look like a handsome Pale Ale overall!

S- Classic aromas that are balanced, leaning towards the malt sweetness rather than to the hop bitterness. Floral notes, blended with yeasty biscuit, slight citrus zest, some dry grassy and/or grainy scents, and the finish comes around again with yeast overtones, this time with more freshly baked bread.....slightly of hop oils to trail off too....

T- Well if it is anything, it is underwhelming in general. Starts off well with plenty of heavy caramel sweet malt, coating the tongue rather well, before turning things over to the the aforementioned dry grass and grain, clean soda cracker, yeasty notes and a clumsy crispness that fills out the finish....muted citrus hop bitterness. Nothing to write home about in this department but I cant say I'm disappointed either.....just not as flavorful as I would have thought for the style.

M/O- I would class this as medium- light bodied, with pleasant carbonation rolling over the palate. The drinkability factor is quite high in my opinion, as it is easy drinking, is thirst quenching and cleanses the palate better than I would have initially thought. Not the best beer out there, but a good offering and a decent recipe of over 85 years! Will get again and worth a try!

This brew is a served from a tall can. It is a pale, clear, yellow-gold colored brew. Thin white head. Grain, grass, and a bit of faint hops in the aroma. Light flavor...balanced and a little grain notes. Not a lot of hops....disappointing.

Tastes like a moosehead, I guess. Really wouldn't call it a pale ale as there is a lack of hops, citrus and other elements that are needed to classify this beer as it says it is. Not bad for what it is but not quite to the level that it should be.....
