Appearance: Light gold. Bright white head. Fairly good retention and lacing. Not as dark as I'd expect a true Märzen to be.
Smell: Light, gently sweetish malt. Soft hops background.
Taste: Simply a slightly maltier Pils. Perhaps there's some more hop flavor as well, but not much. Very straightforward golden malt base. It lacks the depth of flavor I expect in a Märzen. Dry, limited finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied / median carbonation.
Overall: Uninspiring. Perhaps even boring given the Märzen tag. I'd call it more of a Munich helles, but it doesn't even have the malt component for that! Focusing simply on the beer itself in a hedonistic way it's not bad. It's clean and well-balanced. It has some character, even if that's limited. There are a lot of worse beers, but don't expect much.

.5l can purchased and consumed in Austria.
A bit more hops than malt in the nose, and quite a bit more hops in tasting. Moderately bitter by the finish, i think this is the locals'
idea of a very hop forward beer. Some metallic taste here too.
M: Near medium body with somewhat strong carbonation and a significant harshness on the tongue.
O: I guess this is an Austrian macro-brew. Not without some good properties, but substantially inferior to the various Bavarian beers I've had the past several days.

I usually drink this beer when i am in Austria for my holidays.
I know the brewery and its famous in Austria for it's appearance.
Bottles contain 500 cc and are mostly poured in a 500 cc glass. The beer has a nice white head which dissapears after a short while. Has a nice carbonation and the smell is ok; like a German beer does.
This beer is mostly available around Innsbruck in the county Tirol.
I drink this beer now and then with a shot of obstler, an Austrian drink of 40 % alcohol.
(Edit in 2001)I got this beer yesterday (March 2011) poured in an original (and new) Zipfer glass. The carbonation was unbelievable big!! The bubbles kept coming. The taste was as i have known it for a long time.
