bottle that i totally forgot i had so this definitely has some time on it...bear that in mind with the review. enjoyed from a spiegelau glass.

a - beer pours a transparent straw yellow that settles in the glass as honey orange. there are TONS of yeasty chunks and a generous frothy beery head.

s - nice earthy yeast. some pilsnery type of grain. belgian pale esters.

t - surprisingly big fruit blast. sweet honey and grain. toasted bready malts that almost have a caramel vibe to it.

m - medium bodied.

o - very nice beer.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich golden hue with a haze-free body and a light effervescence. Head is two fingers of creamy white foam with good retention. Quite attractive!

Smell: lightly toasty malt with hints of caramel, breadiness and a little graininess. Not at all funky but well-balanced and delightfully autumnal. I quite like this brew's aroma.

Taste: nutty, bready and even a little bit floral. Kind of a combination between a Belgian pale ale and a nut brown. It's got a bit of biscuitiness, which isn't my bag, but overall it's quite good.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a good carbonation and a rocky creaminess. Not bad!

Overall: pretty tasty and quite drinkable. This would make a fantastic leaf-raking beer, or perhaps an accompaniment to pumpkin pie. Did I mention autumnal?

From the corked, caged bottle marked 17/08/12-L11137. Sampled on November 28, 2013. I don't know whether that 2012 date is an expiration or a bottling date. If was an expiration date that may explain why it reminded me of a pilsener.

Going into some detail the pour is medium amber-copper with a short-lived white head. Good clarity.

The aroma does have some notes of toasted malts, yeast, biscuits, and butter.

The body is light to medium.

The taste has the same toasted malt and biscuit character with a touch of grain and a clean, mildly hopped finish. But it had a kind of pilsener quality to it which I did not expect.

A: Pours a relatively clear medium golden yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass and some light hints of straw yellow. The beer has a three finger tall foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to half finger thick layer covering the entire surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of pale malts with some light fruit (apple and pear) sweetness along with some lighter notes of spicy yeast and just a hint of floral hops.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of pale malts with some light amounts of light fruit sweetness (including apple, pear, and white grape). That is followed by a light amount of spicy yeast and just a hint of floral hops. Light to moderate amounts of bitterness are present in the finish but it does not linger for long.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with limited amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: The beer is pretty refreshing and easy to drink, hiding the 6.4% ABV very well. I enjoyed this one and I would definitely get it again - it would pair well with just about any food.

Poured into a Gouyasse tulip glass. Pours a bright medium golden amber with a three finger white head that dissipates slowly, leaving tons of lacing. Aroma of bready malt, grassy, slightly floral hops and a hint of funk. Flavor begins with sweet malt, apple and pear juice, Belgian yeast, but then turns somewhat drier, finishing with light grassy hops and a more saison yeast flavor. Light to medium bodied with bright carbonation. An nice take on the biere de garde style. Flavor is somewhat subdued, but the flavor transition from sweet fruit to drier spritzer is quite nice. Very refreshing flavor and carbonation.

A: beautiful, poofy, foamy white head.... some messy lace as it goes along... brilliantly-clear, yellow-tinged gold liquid.... the decent foam stand gives it a elegant look

S: at first, apples and champagne... reminiscent of a Belgian pale or a continental lager.... initially, almost grassy-hoppy or grainy-grassy or a mix with or mistaken for mild spicy phenols.... vague bubblegum/clove.... weak and clean overall until relatively warm

T: interesting fruity/grape-y when colder, with a toasted cereal-grainy aftertaste.... up front most of the flavor impact lies, and it's fairly subdued and mellow even as the malt and spice flavors come out more later.... when warmer, the taste peaks before mid-sip

M: quite light, crisp, and dry.... the foam feels nice and cottony-soft on the upper lip.... little bit of warmth in the finish... despite relative flat dryness, there's a touch of smooth body midway

O: it's well-garded!... just very mild and nondescript in flavor.... quite drinkable altogether, though I'd never seek it out for its taste.... may be best enjoyed with a light meal of salad and fish?
