Bottled stamped DOB: 3/26/2012.

Pours a dark brown with copper highlights. A one finger, light tan head that dissipated into lacing The most prominent aromas earthy, piney hops, chocolate and malt. This beer starts bitter and ends with a hint of smoke. There is a nice malt backbone. Overall this is a very pleasant porter, a style that I am still becoming familiar.

Pours a deep brown with some dark orange highlights witha thinner tan head that is gone pretty quickly, aromas are of bittersweet chocolate and roasted nuts and dark roast coffee but doesnt pack a real punch.A very well rounded, flavorful porter here bitter chocolate and coffee hit up front but finishes very earthy and dry in the finish with a big dose of hops.A tad thin but very flavorful and extremely quaffable from a western NY brewery that i really like and plan to visit next spring on a trip to the inlaws.

Pretty dark, basically black but has some brown highlights when held to the light. Light, foamy light tan head, 1/2 inch thick and holds on while reducing slowly.

Very light aroma, a touch of chocolate and lightly toasted malts with a little sweetness. Not much else.

Flavor is better. Toasted malts come out again with a little expresso and even some char in the finish. Simple, but more robust than the aroma led on.

Medium bodied mouthfeel that borders on being a little light. Medium carbonation. Flavor lingers for a while.

Overally pretty drinkable as a session type beer. Nothing overly noteworthy but a good offering nonetheless.

A - pours deep brown with one finger of tan head. Head fades pretty quickly, leaving very little lacing.

S - Chocolate and roasted malts. Faint hop presence. Relatively subtle.

T - Taste is much more roasted malts than chocolate. Taste is actually a bit watery. Does has a decent hop presence.

M - Light, thin mouthfeel. Finishes earthy and bitter.

O - Decent porter, but nothing I would seek out. Just too thin to be that enjoyable.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: It has a dark opaque color with a thick foamy tan head. Its head hangs on for awhile and leaves nice rings of lace behind on the glass.

Smell: There is a nice roasted malt aroma with sweet molasses and just a hint of citrusy hops.

Taste/Mouth feel: The favor is full of dark, roasted and malty flavors with burnt caramel and molasses sweetness. Mild bitterness is supplied by a light hops presence that adds some balance. This is all wrapped up in a very drinkable medium body with a pleasant smooth mouth feel and carbonation.

Notes: Drinkable and full of flavor, nice!

Pours an extremely dark brown, near pitch black, with a very stiff, light brown head. Great lacing as well. Although it looks nice, the smell left much to be desired. Nothing very noticable besides some breadiness. Taste was mediocre at best as well. Taste is roasty but not really coffeeish or dark chocolates either. Roasted dark malts, very dry mouthfeel. Tastes kind of burnt actually. Overall, this beer is mediocre. There is nothing that really sticks out and strikes me as being great about it, or even good.

This is the fist Southern Tier offering that has left me wanting. I guess I was due to find a beer from them that doesn't appeal to me.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Chunky froth that leaves a tan lacing behind. Nearly black in color … sure what the hell, it is black.

Smell: Minty, root-like with a sweet roasted aroma.

Taste & Mouth Feel: Medium bodied with a smooth bitty mouth feel. Burnt yet not astringent … tad smoky with charred malt flavors throughout. Clean malty palate, hops are mild with a slight balancing act with the malt. Finishes with a wet charred flavor.

Drinkability & Notes: A very interestingly layered porter, quite flavorful yet not robust at all. I paired this with some smoked cheddar and rye crackers.

A brew remaining from a previous trade w/ shippos.
Pours black w/ just a hint of light passing through on the edges...half a finger of beige head w/ an agressive pour. The cling is thin and goes bye-bye fairly quickly.
Faint aroma w/ mainly roasted malts...a hint of dark chocolate in there.
Taste is also very subtle...a hint of smoky flavor going on.
Bread-like yeast flavors mixed in and no sweetness detected at first, but appears somewhat once this puppy hits room temperature.
Mouthfeel is thicker than I was expecting and the carbonation is decent.
Although this brew is not "wowing" me, I am really enjoying it and can make this a session brew w/ no effort.
Score must suffer due to me having Smutty's Robust Porter last night...tough act to follow.
I really like all of the ST brews I have tried to date...keep 'em coming.

Appearance: dark brown 1/4 inch head

Smell: chocolate, caramel, and malt

Taste: chocolate dominates, burnt malt, some woodiness, and a touch of peanut butter

Mouthfeel: very smooth, light for a porter, semi-sweet

Drinkability: This is my favorite from the brewery so far. This was the mystery beer in the sampler pack I picked up. This is a tasty brew and I will look for it.

Poured into a nonic. A rich black brown hue, leaves a thin, light tan head, which dissolves into a ring around the glass. A bit of foamy lacing.

The smell is great: roasted malt, caramel, toffee. As a porter should.

This is why porters are my favourite style! The flavours in this brew (roasted malt, chocolate, plums, caramel, coffee) work together wonderfully to produce an exceptional flavour. Really enjoyed this one. A nice, crisp aftertaste too, lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a little bit thinner than it'd like, but the carbonation is about right.

A very drinkable porter, not my favourite, but certainly one I'll happily purchase again. Great stuff!

Pours black with weak, quickly dissipating head that leaves almost zero lacing.

The nose is pretty weak, offering some toasted malts, vanilla, and coffee. The flavor consists of coffee, deep roasted malts, a hint of vanilla, and a slight woodiness. The mouth is medium bodied, without a lot of complexity on the tongue.

Not too heavy or alcoholic to drink, but lacks the complex flavor that makes one want to drink another. I often buy the Southern Tier sampler pack, and these are always the last three to be grabbed, paling in comparison to the Phin and Matt's and the Pale Ale.
