Chilled Pint Glass.

S - I don't know if its me but I'm literally getting nothing from this...

A - beautiful golden and hazy with a frothy head...one inch...nice lacing already. Totally unfiltered too...you can see it.

T/M - almost has a belgian yeastiness to it. somewhat hoppy but balanced incredibly well. I will say that it isn't very flavorful though. Very creamy....and has a slight fruity element...On the bottle...1 hop...1 malt... in my opinion that idea bit them on the ass in the smell and taste department. and smell and taste with beer...is everything.

Overall, its a decent beer...kind of heavy and would only want one..maybe two of them...Ive had WAYYYY better offerings from southern tier...this isn't up there in my favorites though...One good thing about this DIPA though is that its over 8% and you would never know it....one of the more drinkable doubles I've had.... I'm not bashing this brewery in any way i love them and love a LOT of their beer...this just wasn't for me though. sure as shit gonna drink it though..haha. Cheers.

Pours a dull light to medium golden with a thinner lacey white head atop.Aromas of sweet onions and mango with a bit of grass, good hop complexity from a single hop,Iam liking the Mosaic variety. The sweet onion is in full effect on the palate along with some grassy tones and tropical fruit, some caramel sugary sweetness is there standing up against the hops all the way.A few others have said this a heavy feeling beer and I tend to agree it's to me an Imperial Pale Ale if there is/was a style like that.A good beer to be had from one of my favorite breweries.

A: A dark golden beer with good clarity and a rocky off-white head. It pours with a finger of foam and has good head retention. A light dusting of sediment at the bootle noted.

S: An herbal and tropical fruit hops aroma with notes of fresh cut grass, pineapple and melon. There is a moderate malt sweetness to the nose and a light alcohol sweetness.

T: A medium-strong hops bitterness with a strong hops flavors of melon, pineapple, fresh herbs that are a bit more like rosemary thanks to the pine-like note along with a hint of earthy and pepper flavors. There is a moderate malt support bring a light sweetness but the balance is firmly bitter. The hops flavor lingers past the off-dry finish.

M: A medium bodied beer with medium-strong carbonation a slight warmth.

O: A great balance of tropical fruit flavors, bitterness and malt sweetness making for an enjoyable IPA.

12oz bottle into a Southern Tier branded Pumpking goblet. Pours a slightly copper-orange with a white fluffy 1" head that lingers as it settles and clings to the glass as its consumed.
Immediately get lots of bright hop notes wafting from the glass that are very earthy yet still retaining some nice citrus and pine resin qualities.
The bittering malt used is uniquely present at first sip, very sweet to my palate then fading from sweet to bitter, as the mosaic hops flourish. Beer finishes quite dry and bitter.
Had to look up the abv on this one, surprisingly rang in at 8% and that caught me off guard. Doesnt taste like a higher abv pale ale. The balance of single hop and malt really play well with each other but I would lean toward this being a tad closer to the malty than hoppy.
The first bottle I poured had quite a bit of sediment that collected at the bottom of the glass. 2nd bottle I poured more gingerly and left the last oz or 2 in the bottle, as to not fill my glass with sediment.
Overall the beer was quite enjoyable all things considered. Im a fan of the mosiac hop its a $10 6-pack, 8%abv and very easy on the palate. I say this being not a huge fan of most Southern Tier brews as well. Well executed but has room for definite improvement.

12 ounce bottle, Born on dating of 1-19-14

Pours near clear, glowing medium amber with a dull orange hue, medium khaki head, stays pretty well and leaves fine ringed and scattered lace.

Mostly malt on the nose. Tasty brew with a moderate hop snap with some pine, lime and lite gin notes shining through. Well done STBC, this is one you can enjoy all night and come back to over and over again.

12 oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. Bottled on 1/16/2014 (~1 1/2 months old)

Pours a somewhat light glowing orange color, very clear other than a little bit of some fine sediment. Forms decent layer of white head, not the best retention, head nearly gone halfway through the glass. Some pretty good lacing is left however.

Initially aroma is metallic and missing some of the bigger hop aromas I got smelling from the bottle. As it warms there is a nice hop aroma that comes in, juicy fresh peach, definatly tropical fruit, some tangerine and grapefruit citrus as well with hints of lemon. Very green smelling. A slight hint of booze on the backend. Really no malt detectable.

The taste is much lighter than you would guess when considering the ABV. Similar to other hoppy southern tier beers I've had if not a touch above. Again very green, almost grassy, juicy peach, this nice sweet hopiness, lots of citrus, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, some tropical fruits as well. Malt again is really nearly undetectable and absolutely zero alcohol. Finishes a bit on the dry end.

Its hard to believe this is 8.1% on the light side. Very refreshing and crisp. I was a bit confused why they would call this a pale ale, but now I can kind of see why, but this can definatly pass as an IPA as well.

A very well made beer. Don't know many breweries that are making SMASH beers so kudos to ST. This ones a winner. Hope to see different versions of this.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on 01/14/14.

Appearance: Pours an unfiltered and bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A ripe and juicy hop forward aroma with good hints of citrus fruit and pine. Upfront citrus hops with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, lemon, pineapple, apricot, and melon. Earthy and floral hop hints of grass and pine. Sweet malt backing with hints of caramel, grains, and cracker. Also some light hints of pepper. A very juicy tropical aroma. Pretty nice.

Taste: As good as the smell, a very juicy and tropical hop forward taste with lots of citrus. Upfront taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, mango, orange peel, apricot, lemon, pineapple, tangerine, and melon. Earthy and floral hop notes as well. Some grass and spicy pine resin. Slight pepper like taste. Solid malt background with notes of sweet caramel, cracker, and grains. A very good tropical taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly oily with a drying finish. Alcohol is masked nicely.

Overall: A really impressive new brew here. Has the tropical fruit taste of a good double IPA. One of the best new beers this year so far.

Southern Tier 2XONE

X marks the spot

Poured into pint glass

A: Outstanding. Yellowish copper I guess with floating sediment.

S: Not much to get excited about. Bready malts, sugar, caramel. Hops on the nose similar to other pale ales.

T: Sweet and tasty, not bad . . .very drinkable with a nice bitter finish

M: light bodied, ok.

O: A good American Pale Ale . . . Not great. Southern Tier knows how to brew solid beer and 2XONE is another solid beer. I probably won't revisit this one but I would love to see it canned and the abv dropped a tad.
