A - A tad bit more than two fingers worth of crisp light khaki colored head with a bit of a rocky top comprised of medium-to-large sized chunky bubbles... Loaded with brisk carbonation that starts at a moderate pace towards the bottom of the glass and quickly increases speed by the time it reaches the top... A good numbers of carbonation bubbles also clings to the sides of the glass... The color is mostly a vibrant orangish amber with some faint pale gold undertones... Some lacing clings to the sides of the glass...

S - The distinctive mosaic hop varietal is at the forefront... Sweet citrus... Grapefruit... Assorted tropical fruits... This sits atop a light but sturdy malt foundation... Some white bread notes complimented by a subtle toffee sweetness... Simple, straight-forward and effective...

T - The citrusy hop presence is dialed back a bit on the palate... This is replaced by a mix of earthy and piney hop goodness... There are some faint floral notes as well... I was surprised a bit by the varied hop profiles as this is a single hopped offering... Bread crust... Some lightly burnt caramel notes... The finish also seems to have a light spicy rye kick about it...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... Uber clean... Uber crisp... Even and consistent... There is a touch of dryness that permeates throughout... Light yet briskly carbonated...

D - Easy drinker... HIdes the 8.1% ABV exceedingly well... There is a certain pilsneresque charm about this Souther Tier offering... Not my favorite American Pale Ale, but a very respectable one none the less...

Southern Tier 2XONE 2014 inaugural edition has a medium, yellowish head, a gold-orange, bubbly appearance, with powdery suspended sediment, and lots of webbed lacing left behind. The aroma is of fairly intense hop resin and underlying white bread. Taste is of even more intense hop oil, but this is not harsh or particularly strong, just noticeable. Also, the white, sweet bread is picked up. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Southern Tier 2XONE 2014 finishes puckering, easy going, and warming in the body. Overall, I don’t think this is a particularly differentiated ale, but I still recommend it.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a healthy two-finger off-white head with great retention and lacing. Nice Mosaic tropical and citrus fruit hop aroma, light caramel malt, a little dank. Flavor is sweet caramel and bready malt, tropical and orange family citrus; finishes with citrus and grapefruit rind hops and lingering caramel malt. Medium bodied with some creaminess, nice mouthfeel. This is my kind of APA (I'd rate it as high as a IPA), caramel malty and nice juicy hops. Some folks like lots of hops with a light malt body and this isn't for them. I cannot think of a time when Southern Tier let me down. They tend to be a bit on the sweet side, but that works for me if there is good malt to support it, as with this ale. Really like it.
