12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled on 02/24/14.

A: Pours a clear amber with minimal white head on top. Average amount of visible carbonation visible in the body. Some lacing on the glass.

S: Get quite a bitter aroma on this brew with a blend of hop qualities. A mix of citrus hop, pine and earthiness. Mild malting in the background, focus is certainly on the hops.

T: As anticipated this is one bitter beer. Lots of hop flavors come across with just a slight malt backing. Mostly a citrusy fruit tone to the hop profile. Alcohol is fairly well hidden.

M: Medium to full body with somewhat low carbonation. For the amount of hops in this one it finishes fairly clean.

Overall this beer has good flavor and a strong kick, although I feel it falls just a bit short of its potential. Especially at this price point.

12 oz bottle poured into a Pilsner glass.

Appearance
Pale gold with 1/2 finger of head that dissipates quickly. Excellent clarity with medium-light carbonation.

Nose
Grapefruit, lemon zest, Fruity Pebbles, perfumey florals, and candy sugar.

Taste
Spicy, earthy, herbaceous hoppery! Grapefruit, lemon pith, and Fruity Pebbles. Pine needles soaked in sunlight and bright perfumey florals. Candy sugar and light notes of biscuit. Finishes easy with fruity esters and the aforementioned grapefruit / floral combo.

Mouthfeel
Full bodied, smooth, crisp, oily, and off-dry.

Overall
My guess is Columbus and Centennial and I'm a huge fan of Columbus.

Poured with standard vigor into a tulip glass.

A - pours a clear sparkling gold, with little to no head. Carbonation is visible but not abundant.

S - Grassy hops, hints of onion, and not much else. A touch a malt surfaces from the loads of booze that it throws as it warms.

T - More pine and grassy hops, with a nod in the direction of pineapple and mango. Booze is quite apparent as well. Okay, but not great.

M - Tingly carbonation, that doesn't do much for this (IMHO) mediocre beer. It pushes the light hops across your palate, and isn't too soapy, so I guess it has that going for it.

O - I fail to see what the allure of this beer is, other than lack of accessibility. I mean, $22 for a six-pack? REALLY??? The most pedestrian of IPA offerings have more going on than this, at a fraction of the price! If you're a "ticker" as the saying goes, and you can buy a single to try, do so. Don't be suckered in by the "super hopped" claim on the packaging, or the fact that it really IS THIS EXPENSIVE. I just didn't get it.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Clear gold with two fingers of foamy white head, medium lacing.
S - Aroma is super weak, some pine, lemon, really weird sweet malt.
T - Astringent bitterness, very sweet caramel malt, pine, candied fruits.
M - Bitter and dry.
O - I never liked the old version of this one, and i still dont like it.

12oz bottle purchased 6/07/14 from Atlas Bottle Works in Pittsburgh, PA poured into tulip.

A - Bright, orange gold color, minimal head pouring out of the bottle dissipating quickly. Underwhelming

S - Grapefruit front and center softened by caramel from the malt

T - Rich malts balanced by citrus from the hops, dries out yet doesn't go overboard on the bitter and finishes sweeter than I anticipated from the 'super hopped ale' indicated on the label. Hops on finish become more pronounced as I continue. Very nice

M - Creamy and full bodied with medium carbonation

O - Fantastic American Strong. Much more pleasant than double IPAs that leave your mouth a sandbox. A couple more steps and it would basically be a barley wine but this beer is very drinkable
