I'm reviewing this based on the style listing here, which frankly annoys me. This is more of an APA or an IPA...it has no old ale characteristics that I can discern.

Pour is amber, nice looking brew. Mild head. Nose is citrus twang and malts. Fairly classic pale.

The flavour on this is two major things: ruby red grapefruit and casual caramel malts. The grapefruit is not particularly aggressive and fades off the palette pretty quickly though.

The bottom line: This would be an across the board average beer if it was listed as an APA or IPA, as an old ale though? Overhopped, undermalted, and extremely shallow. Pick this up if you're looking for something mildly hoppy for the winter, but avoid if you actually want an old ale.

A very solid winter warmer...

...but you see, the thing is, is that it had a very "champagne of beers" smell to it. Nonetheless, other than that, it was a very good beer. Great looking copperish coloration with a medium-bodied mouthfeel and a juicy, verging on IPA flavoring with citrus, mainly grapefruit notes. All things considered, a great beer to have on hand during this time of year.

Best by 3/28/24

L: Clear, medium amber, one inch off-white head.
S: Malty bread, notes of sweet chocolate and caramel, mineral aromas later.
T: Malty but fairly dry, toasted malt, bitter chocolate , moderate floral bitter finish, sharp overall.
F: Medium-weight body, crisp with an underlying creaminess.
O: Decent, less malt flavor and sweetness than the nose indicated.

12 oz. bottle. A nice winter warmer. A bit on the hoppy side, although the malt is definitely present. Clean finish with; not too bitter, not too sweet.

Pour is brown with moderate head that dissipates somewhat slowly. Nose is malty with some sweetness. Taste is malt-heavy with some caramel and a slightly nutty finish. Mouthfeel is lighter than the color would indicate with some carbonation. Overall a good, but not great brew.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Nice dark/copper color. Notice the carbonation right away. Smell is kind of light. Nothing jumping out. Would say malty aroma if forced to pick one. I get caramel and malt on the taste. Nice little beer but nothing great. This Winter Ale definitely has a lot of "lager" feel.

Brownish-red on the pour with beige head and lots of lace. Aroma is caramel malt and currents. Taste follows and is pleasantly nutty and malty. It's a pretty decent brew, good, not great. Not boozy for 7.5% ABV.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark amber with tall, long lasting, fluffy, off-white head, nice lacing and lively carbonation. Aroma is of piney hops, spices, dark fruit and caramel malt. Body is full and crisp. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is long, dry and spicy. Nice brew.

Thin and very boozy tasting "big" winter warmer, that isn't big tasting. Heavily carbonated with big bubbles blasting up. The main taste I get is sharp grain alcohol, way too strong in the flavor profile. Next some underwhelming minty and lemon rind flavors, caramel, peppery spice. A watery beer for the style, nothing to make it special, or worth looking forward to having another. Kind of a miss for a "special" beer. Tastes like an old school malt liquor.

Finished off a sixer of 12oz bottles (best by 03/12/24) poured into my trusty thistle: red-gold body with a nice white head; a mix of malt & hop aromas on both the nose & tongue; smooth medium bodied, not overly carbonated with little obvious alcohol; a solid example of the style
