Enjoyed out of a 12 oz brown bottle with a bottling date of 03/21/13. Poured into a classic Weizen glass.
Appearance - It's hard not to forget that this is an APWA rather than a Hefeweizen. Aggressive pour yields a pillowy two-finger head of stark white sitting atop a body of light golden straw yellow. The light shining through shows a constant stream of carbonation bubbles drifting up from the bottom of the glass. Retention is excellent and lacing is sticky and pronounced.
Smell - A wonderfully complex smelling wheat ale. Some aromatic floral and grassy elements, but not overpowering. You can still detect the wheaty base, which mixes with some faint phenolic notes as well as some spice and lemon zest.
Taste - Taking the lead from the smell, the taste is a great blend of ethereal floral and pine with a rounder bed of wheat and grain. Citric lemon again makes it's presence known along with some peppery characteristics.
Mouthfeel - Light bodied but not too thin. Upper-moderate carbonation with a clean and refreshing finish.
Overall, this might be my new favorite APWA. It manages to bring in a very hop forward profile (like a couple of other hoppy wheats I could name), but does so with great balance and subtlety. A perfect summertime beer.
