12 oz bottle from Kraig's Kegs.
Translucent deep gold body. White, frothy head retreats leaving a sticky lace on my glass.
Wonderfully simple smell with desirable hop lure. Hops at forefront with undertones of wheat. Citrus notes of lemon. Shy sweet-malt effrevescence.
Crisp wheat surfaces as the most powerful taste. Hops are faintly bitter but don't follow through as much as the smell forcasts. A little more than medium carbonation with relatively large bubbles. Hop Sun's a light bodied beer that sacrifices malt to maintain it's attraction as a summer brew.
This is a rather uncomplicated beer, very straight forward (something I don't expect from Southern Tier). No carefully engineered hop combination or malt. No spice. Still--as my friends point out--it's a good selection for those looking for a flavorful, yet modest brew. If you're looking to ease someone into hop-worshipdom but their taste-buds can't handle it yet, this beer's a good starting point. Not watered down, but light-bodied (there's a big difference), making it a good candidate for a hot summer's day.
