Why are their big beers so extraordinary, but their normal brews so mediocre??

That's exactly what this is - completely and totally mediocre. I could drink a few without batting an eye; neither in a good way, nor a bad. Pours a light gold, with little head. I found the color to be a bit watery looking. Taste has mild sweetness and a decently strong hop sense. Mouthfeel is pleasant and simple. drinkability is high - actually was a good experience on a hot summer day.

Pours a clear golden with a white one finger head that is gone pretty quickly not leaving much lace behind, evergreen pine aromas here and quite heavy at that with an underlying caramel sweetness but the pine is main attraction. If you like a well balanced pale ale then this is your thing,a dose of citric hops hits up front but the firm caramel/biscuit backbone of this beer melds extremely well with the hops just making this beer not only well balanced and flavorful but very quaffable.I really enjoyed this brew I would say its "extraordinary".

Appearance: Hazy orange with a bubbly beige head.

Aroma: Super juicy with tons of oranges especially. Toast and bread backbone.

Taste/mouthfeel: Medium bodied, smooth, astringent, with a mint like biting/bitter finish. Tremendous orange flavor. Juicy as can be. Some other citrus, tangerine and a little grapefruit, over toast and biscuits. Delightful juicy body.

Drinkability: Outstanding. This is a sessionable beer indeed. Just wonderful.

A pale golden beer with excellent, bright clarity and a white head of about one finger of compact foam.

Strong hops aromas of fresh pine and citrus are dominate the aroma. There is a faint malt aroma of toast and biscuits in the background with very little else, clean with no diacetyl.

Flavors are a balance of hops and malt flavors, the hops are again piney and citrusy with a clean malt character with maybe a touch of biscuit. It has a medium bitterness and a medium high American hops flavors that linger into a dry finish. There is a slight grassiness to the hops character as well.

Medium body and moderately high carbonation. No astringency. it has the nice softness and effervescence that make it very lively on the palate.

A moderately hop beer with enough restraint on the bitterness to make for a very approchable and refreshing beer. Hop heads won't be wowed but they won't be disappointed either. Overall it has a good balance of flavors and is a good representation of the pale ale style.

This bottle poured with a lot of foam, old bottle perhaps. Yeah, it's way over-conditioned, the head looks like mousse.

Aroma and taste of fresh grain and cascade hops. It's over priced and under qualified. I'll pass on this and have a Sierra Pale instead. Thanks.

Wow this surprised me. A - rich golden color. S - hoppy, I'm still undecided about IPA's so I'm hesitant. T - smooth malt flavor with hints of hop notes. Bites at the end but pleasurable. M - Thick but goes down fast. O - 3 hops instead of 2 with the farmers tan, yet a touch more subtle. Makes up for it with a dry end, it surprised me how good it tasted.

Appearance: Light gold, orangey color. Very small head when poured. Minimal carbonation, Light penetrating gives a golden hue.

Aroma: Very promounced American hop profile. Malt balance evident. Hop aroma citrusy & piney without coming across as too bitter.

Taste: Citrusy hop flavor. Not bitter due to the malt balance. Good overall balance in this APA.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied & crisp. Very nice when cold. Very smooth in the mouth on its way down.

Drinkability: I found this very drinkable, fresh tasting & clean on the palette. Makes this enjoyable for a few....

Comments: I liked this APA. I would recommend it to all. Very tasty & full flavored without being overly bitter. Only detraction is that I find many of Southern Tier's beers to have the same hop flavor. They should mix up the hop bill...

Pours a clear, light orange with a finger of head that dissipates quickly. Mild to moderate lacing.

Very nice aroma of citrus.

Flavor is mild but enjoyable. Very smooth and balanced, with no one flavor dominating over the others. A nice touch of hop bitterness at the end makes it a solid representative of the style (of those I've tried). I wouldn't mind a little more citrus flavor up front, but I'm hoping that's what I'll get when I try their IPA.

A little on the fizzy side for me, but it doesn't take away from the overall experience.

This isn't quite to the level of Dale's as far as I'm concerned, but it's a good beer. I would definitely give this to someone who is transitioning out of American macros and into the good stuff. A good addition to the Southern Tier variety pack that I probably wouldn't have tried otherwise.

A golden color with a small white head and a fair amount of lacing. Sweet malt aroma, lemon/citrus, flowers. I thought the malt came through more in the taste, tasting like a brioche, with a little lemon, and some late hops. Pretty balanced. I imagine this would be a good session beer.

Presentation: Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: It pours a beautiful golden amber color with a thin head that fades fast leaving just a few bubbles around the sides of the glass.

Smell: The aroma get a kick of citrus, floral and piney hops with undertones of sweet bready malts.

Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor starts with sweet bready malts with a light toasted note. It soon builds up to a burst of fruity and piney hops with a decent bitterness that fades off into the finish. The palate is smooth and slightly oily with average carbonation and a medium body.

Notes: Overall it has a strong hop presence with an easy to drink, refreshing palate. Its good but I wouldn't call it extraordinary.

wow for a pale ale this one really knocked my socks off when i poured it into a glass the head was basically levitating right out the glass it stayed there the whole time too

the smell was fantastic it smelled pine trees in the forest with some grapefruit as well and even some lemon how did they do that?

taste was perfect balance i had the malt in there but also the hops balancing in the end if they would have added any more hops it would have been too much but you know what they got the perfect amount in there really nice balance all the way

good mouthfeel overall i think this is super quaffable i will definitely buy this again i am loving the pale ale style and these guys definitely have it right on i will seek out more of their beers for sure
