12 oz bottle into a wine glass.
A: Pours a BEAUTIFUL clear amber color. The head is around a finger high, shaded slightly off-white. Retention is pretty good, and the texture allows it to leave behind a consistent (but short) ring of lacing behind. Seriously, this looks amazing in a glass.
S: Considering how much I've gotten used to high-falutin' new world hops, it's a bit refreshing to come back to something more...erm...'traditionally' hopped. A decent amount of floral Cascade notes come through, and even some light grapefruit qualities. There is some malt - slightly bready, slightly caramel-laden - to help break up the monotony, but never overpowers. Smells pretty solid, if a little mild.
T: This is definitely your typical Cascade-hopped pale ale, so the usual notes are here (flowers, grapefruit, and lime). What helps to separate it, however, is how the malt notes are soft and balancing without being oppressive. Maybe it's a bit on the weak side, but I don't care. This one is a keeper.
M: So, so crisp, even over other pale ales. It isn't the lightest, but it's so dry that I don't care. Bottle conditioning is doing its job here. Also fairly well carbonated. A twinge of sweetness lingers on the palate to let one know they're killing this too fast *cough*. Well ST, maybe you shouldn't make such a tasty pale ale, then I wouldn't drink it so fast. :P
O: There are times where a simple pale ale can bring just as much satisfaction as a hextuple barrel-aged barleywine brewed with Belgian dark chocolate, platinum shavings, and a portion of Shroud0fdoom's weed stash. This is one of those times. No, it isn't complex enough to earn something like a 4, but it's certainly good enough to keep around on regular drinker duty.
