Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.
Appearance: Dark and black with only a small amount of brown color shining through the bottom. Lots of bubbles sticking to the glass. Decent finger of tan head fades into a patchy layer. Lacing is light.
Smell: A sweet mix of chocolate, roasted malts, oatmeal, vanilla, malted milk, and coffee with a little brown sugar. Slight hint of oak and dark fruits. Everything is very balanced with nothing standing out over the others.
Taste: Tastes like it smells with a balanced sweetness from roasted malts, chocolate, oats, milk, coffee, vanilla, and dark fruits. A good amount of molasses throughout. A little heat from the alcohol, but it is hidden pretty well overall. Pretty tasty.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. Very smooth for the high ABV.
Overall: A pretty solid double imperial stout from Southern Tier. They have better big stouts but this is pretty good.
