Has a pretty rich nose...I get some chocolate, roasted malts and dark fruit immediately. Upon pouring, heavy molasses showed up as well, making it a very rich brew on the nose. In fact, the chocolate seemed to disappear and it was just richly sweet.
Pours midnight black...little to no head showing up at all. No big surprises here.
Taste is a very sweet one, which I suppose is what makes it an "imperial" oatmeal stout. Loads of molasses accompanied with dark fruit dominate the body of this beer. A very sugary stout (though nowhere near some of their others). A roasted note does show up at the backend for balance, with a touch of bitterness closing it out, allowing for a little roasted note to linger afterwards. Mouthfeel is pretty dang oily here...there's no doubt this is an imperial stout. Really though, it is a pretty big, sweet, dark fruit bomb for the most part.
Not bad. Honestly, I really don't know taste wise what makes this an oatmeal stout. I won't pretend to. It just comes across as a thick, sweet stout with minimal roasted and hop bitterness in the back. Tasty though, especially for the ridiculous ABV.
