Trying the 2008 version.
Pours an extremely dark brown, lots of bubbles. Theres a 1/3 inch mocha colored head. Lacing and head retention were par for the style and age.
Smell is of rich dark chocolate, burnt sugar, and espresso. There is also some dried figs mixed with slight oxidation.
Taste is somewhat like port, chocolate syrup, dried dark fruit, espresso, and booze are detected. For 11% the alcohol isnt overpowering and actually mixes nicely with the chocolate sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lighter than alot of imperial stouts. Carbonation levels are average, and head died down rather fast, not contributing much to the texture of beer.
Overall this beer is pretty good, lots of flavor mixed with a good amount of alcohol. Gonna drink the whole bomber tonight, paired nicely with some pinkberry chocolate and peanut butter yogurt. This beer is about 3 years old, which I suspect is just right in the amount of time aging. Cant imagine how boozy this beer would be fresh.
