Pours a pitch black with a thick layer of brown head that has great retention. There's a very light aroma; roasted malts, faint chocolate, and mild hop character. The taste is chocolaty and roasty with a very smooth, rich full body. There is also a smooth, citrusy hop bitterness. This is full boded and well carbonated.

It's well balanced, delicious, and very drinkable.

A: Dark, thick, slightly syrupy appearing with a half inch thick, dense head. IMO, appears as a good oatmeal stout should.

S: Chocolately malt, with a slight hint of coffee. Not a strong smell overall, though.

T: This is one of the best oatmeal stouts I've ever had the pleasure of tasting! Rich, slightly sweet, well balanced chocolate/malt/coffee. There may be just a hint of dark fruit in there as well, although it really only became apparent as the beer warmed to room temp.

M: Thick, just a bit on the syrupy side, but not a negative as far as I'm concerned. Chewy might be the right word. Right amount of carbonation.

O: I'm a huge fan of stouts, and this tops my list. I would be hard pressed to come up with another brew that would top this one. It is well balanced is most every respect. If you come across it, I highly recommend picking up a bottle!

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Very black. Not super black but no light gets through. Two finger mocha colored head with awesome retention and good lacing.

S: Light nose on this. Oatmeal is the main aroma. Coffee and chocolate are very very light. A touch of alcohol.

T: Some chocolate upfront. Touch of coffee bitterness. Then oatmeal is pretty big in the middle through the finish. Touches of alcohol in the finish.

M: Medium full body. Medium high carbonation. Creaminess is light. Decent mouthcoating.

O: A good beer but kind of disappointed due to the quality of the other Southern Tier stouts.
