Second experience with this one. No date, but as others have pointed out, a very informative bottle: 11.0 % ABV (not 10: fix that), 23 degrees plato, 2-row pale malt, cara-pils malt, red wheat, kettle hops: chinook & cascade, hop-back: syrian golding, dry hopped, cascade, centenial, & chinook. "serve in a fluted glass."
Sorry, Southern Tier: don't got no fluted glass. Poured instead into a standard pub pint, from which the Imperial IPA produces a thick, densely foamy orange creamsicle head (that looked like I could have shaved with it), with fair retention. Body a rusted deep copper (I know: copper doesn't rust, but it was almost like a red ale - and there IS that red wheat, for what that's worth), with good whisps of carbonation initially but completely still now - on my third pour from the 22 oz bomber. (But the IIPA is tasting better and better.)
Lovely hoppy fruity fragrance with undertones of malt. Balanced in the mouth - this doesn't taste like 11% ABV. Flavor runs through a kind of hops-malt-hops spectrum as it slides though, with a lingering, slightly bitter finish.
Nice foamy mouthful. Like this one a lot. Grandly drinkable, which means it's going to knock a lot of people on their asses - downing a bomber is very close to drinking a bottle of wine solo. On most nights, I'll be dozing off with a book on my lap.
Left a series of slender lace garters at half-inch sipping intervals. (Or is half inch closer to a gulp?) Pretty.
Loved this one for its balanced drinkability. And it's a good value in these parts at $5.00 or so for the bomber.
(Hey, Southern Tier! What's that Mogen David in the "Un*Earthly"?)
