Like the other two southern tier imperial stouts ive had (mokah, choklat), this one pours much too light with a quickly receding head that is equally unimpressive. all three of them also smell nearly the same, only with emphasis on one or another characteristic. this one, not surprisingly, emphasizes coffee, but also contains chocolate and a dark fruity sweetness that decently compliments the dry roasted bitterness of the coffee-bean aroma. alcohol is also apparent. this is perhaps the best smelling of the three.
To my great relief, it is also the best tasting of the three. the dry roastiness takes away what seemed like a "fake" sweetness in the other ones, so that what is sweet here can be enjoyed without feeling like you're devouring a can of cheap chocolate frosting. The sweetness here is all fruit. champagne grapes come to mind, as well as plum and possibly cherries. the coffee is really only prevalent in the finish and aftertaste, where is accompanied by a nice tingly alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel is, as with the other two, much too thin. the drinkability is much higher here than in the others because of it bitter-roastiness equalizing the sweetness, which amounts to an over-all great blend of flavors.
much more impressed by this one than by either mokah or choklat.

A - Pitch black with half a finger of fizzy tan head, a little spotty lacing.
S - Weak coffee in the aroma, maybe it just didnt take well to the aging, vanilla, dark chocolate, very sweet caramel and toffee malts.
T - Super sweet stout, this is like an imperial milk stout with more of a hinting at coffee, lots of toffee flavor in this, vanilla, milk chocolate, definitely alcohol too.
M - Cloyingly sweet, viscous, silky.
O - Decent, but not what I remember it being like, I'm thinking it just didnt age well, but ohh well, thats the last I'll be having of this.
